Can anyone tell me where I can buy magazines to fit a HS Precision equipped Savage FCP? I've heard of Savage Shooter Supply but I'm wondering of any others? Thanks!

Re: Savage DBM

if you want to keep your stock DBM, SSS is the only ticket in town. but, as slow as they are and as hard as it is to get ahold of them, well, you may want to consider CDI. mags cost as much as SSS but you can get these easily. i like SSS, but man, they isolate themselves.

oh yeah, nice rifle. i just bedded mine

Re: Savage DBM

you would be better off making the same thing SSS is making, hi cap mags for savage. but having a better supply and sales organization with better customer service and delivery date adhearance

Re: Savage DBM

I see I'm not the only one frustrated with SSS. Ordered and prepaid for a stock from them back in June with an 8-10 week quote. Pretty sure its been like 16 weeks now, but I can't cancel or they'll charge me a 25% restocking fee. Right now I really have no use for their stock anymore but I'm stuck with it. And forget about the magazines I ordered from them 3+ months ago...

Re: Savage DBM

i got thru on wednesday. lisa said the mags were 3-4 weeks out. one thing i did find was that if you went to savage shooters forum and post in their section or send a pm to them, they will reply. i almost shit my pants when someone picked up and said hello. i had called 34 times

OP- SSS is about the only place to get savage stuff. There is other places to get stock 4 round mags but if you want a larger mag they are the only place I know of to get them.

Axeman - I am with you I called for days with no answer then I emailed and on the 3rd email I heard back. I have been waiting for a mag for over a month now. Still 3-4 weeks out...

They told me they were waiting on springs from Savage to do the mag run. If someone else made these products and had the customer service of hide reps they would be rich quick.

PS- upon order of he mag they said 1-2 weeks so I thought nothing of it and now they have been sitting on fund for over a month and will for another month.... How about you eat the cost till you have the product. I am paying some guy to do nothing for 2 months... what is this the post office?

Re: Savage DBM

I'm lucky in the fact that I only live an hour away from SSS and they allowed me to drop off my Savage to get it worked. While I was there Lisa showed me around the place and man are they busy.

While talking with Lisa, she told me that they have someone there pretty much 24 hours a day prepping rifles for Fred to work on. I also met and talked to Fred for a bit. He comes across as a down to earth guy and was polite, but I could tell that he had little time for chit chat.

bodywerks- I'm sure the wait for your stock is crazy long, but let me tell you that you will absolutely love it. I checked out a few that they had just finished and decided that the next stock I buy will be from them.

They were upfront with me about the turn around times being pretty long, but I'm fine with that. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements to my Savage.

Re: Savage DBM

i told lisa yesterday that i unly use my 9 rounder as my stock 4 rnd has issues feeding. they are a nice touch. 180+ rounds one day and no issues. had a ftf when i tried the factory one. havent used it since. ive got three more coming. lisa said one guy has 15 and loads they all instead of using shell boxes to transport to the range

Re: Savage DBM

This is pretty funny I see this topic come up. A guy that shoots in some of the matches I shoot had his custom savage with a home-made ten round magazine. After I realized how hard it was to get SSS mags, I'm currently in the process of looking into building these. Best of all, It is a metal design like AICS and the ones like it, but fits in stock DBM. I figure something like this could be done and sold at or less than the price of SSS. Once I get one built I will post it on here and see what kind of response I get. It will be a month or so, but I'm making it happen. I feel like it's something worth putting time into, what do you guys think?

unless its the same guy, he is the second person that has mentioned seeing a factory setup modified to accept an aics mag in a stock savage DBM. id look into it, but no one around here has a mag to use for testing. ive never seen one myself to know if its possible. the stock mag release is forward of the mag. AICS mag systems all look like they are retained on the opposite side. my rifle is in the other room, but i think thats right.

Re: Savage DBM

Your right about the mag release AXEMAN. The design I am referring to does require quite a bit of modification to make it fit into the stock bottom metal and work with front mag release, but once I have one done, it could be duplicated very easily. It's something I'm working on and once I get it figured out I'll be sure to post up some pics.

Re: Savage DBM

please do. i keep hearing about it. SSS has that new conversion as well, but im not sure what mags it takes. mags still cost a bit, but you can get them in alot more places readily so it would be nice

Re: Savage DBM

Wow I just looked at that SSS DBM kit. $150 for bottom metal and $65 for the mags. Looks like a pretty good deal. They use ACME magazines. But now for the big question, are they available IF you can get through to them?

Re: Savage DBM

I econd Kevin at Stockade. He's a real stand up guy. He just built up my model 10 and it's frick'in sweeeeet. His customer service is more than great.

Re: Savage DBM

SSS may not be the only place to get savage, but it is the only place to get the hi cap mags and that acme mag system at the moment. dont take it wrong, ive heard good stuff from alot of people about him and his work. but its the hi-cap mags or bottom metal that everybody is looking for and the subject of the post. and for that stuff we are forced to wait and deal with SSS.

i keep hoping someone will take an interest and copy the SSS design or come up with another alternative to modify the factory mag and use factory DBM. when they make 50 or 100 and they are all sold BEFORE they are even made EVERY time they are made for $80 a pop, well thats $$$$ and someone will eventually see that. i hope. everybody always says that they dont get much request for savage stuff, but then this stuff cant be kept in stock. i hear it about mcmillan stocks from the guy that sells them here. ive heard bottom metal makers say they dont get much call for it. how can we call for it when they dont offer it? we wont wait, we will buy CDI or DBull or ACME if we can get thru.

Re: Savage DBM

I have ordered several things from SSS without complaint. But recently, for my new build, my smith couldn't get my SSS comp trigger to work with the safety. He has been trying for weeks via phone and email to reach them. It is now being returned to SSS and getting replaced with a Rifle Basix from else where. I recommend Kevin at Stockade, he always answers the phone and is great to deal with.

I don't believe he lists it on the website. Give him a call. Don't quote me on this, but I believe it was 200 bucks when I talked to him last spring.

Re: Savage DBM

Thanks for all the responses. I have shot and love the CDI BM but I was looking for a cheaper solution. I was looking at what SSS has to offer but not many are saying anthing good about them, guess that brings me back to the CDI.

Re: Savage DBM

chris. try this. it may work. send an email with your phone number to SSS and in the subject line put in "i would like to order a few 9 round mags" and i know it sounds silly, but i bet you get a call. now they are supposed to be done in 3 weeks. you may have to wait, so buy as many as you can when you can. then just sit back and wait. or try the phone. sit back, grab a drink and a smoke and some snacks, pop in a favorite DVD and get familiar with redial. make sure the SSS web page is up on your PC cause when someone finally answers you will have forgotten who you were calling, lol. they really are nice mags

Re: Savage DBM

I am with Axeman. My old man ordered my mag as a very late BDay gift (long story). He tried calling for 3 hours and got nothing but busy. I emailed them his number and they called him so he could place the order. That is about the best way to get through. If someone could machine the bottom piece of the mag they make I would be interested. I have 2 extra standard mags missing the bottom plate so I am sure I could make the 2 springs into 1 to work and I have 2 top body mag pieces as well. I am sure it will be a great product from SSS but the wait is a bit of a poor customer service issue. At least let people know upon order or on the website that they are 6-8 weeks out.

Re: Savage DBM

HAHA I'll make sure and let you get dibs once I get it worked out Hank! I'm working on everything so then it'll just be an issue of getting them built at a decent price. I will post a thread with pics once I get one made and see what the response is like.

That's interesting. There's really nothing on the SSS trigger that would make it not work with the safety. Its just a setscrew that the end user has to adjust. About the only thing that would be the fault of the SSS trigger is if the threads or setscrew were stripped. Otherwise, its a problem with the safety itself.
What riflebasix trigger did you get? I can tell you from experience that the sav-1 is junk. The sav-2 is better but the sear engagement adjustment is kinda chincy and is heavily based on the savage trigger. You are basically getting a savage accutrigger without the accurelease and with a crude sear engagement adjustment and overtravel adjustment.
