Yep, this again. I'd like to adjust my trigger, and sadly Savage did not see fit to make it adjustable without removing the stock. I have read that the torque spec is 15 inch lbs. However... my torque wrench only goes down to 20 inch lbs. I know the bottom metal is kind of flimsy, would it be okay to torque it to 20? Or should i just not worry about it and tighten it by hand. I'd not be opposed to replacing the bottom metal altogether also, its pretty shitty.

Edit: The BV model has the laminated stock on it, for whatever thats worth.

The bottom metal is flimsy, as is the area around the front screw...

I'd get the thick bottom metal from DIP and not put all the torque on the driver.. It may be worth investing a little bit of $ and get the right tool... unfortunately, i've found nothing with 1 in/lb increments at a reasonable price... The much acclaimed FAT is in 5 in/lb increments, which is the closest you'll get without the cost of a new rifle.

I was planning on getting that bottom metal, plus a new trigger guard (I hate having shitty plastic on my gun). I might just set my torque wrench for 20 in lbs and just not go all the way...

I have a BVSS - laminate with a thumbhole - I made my own bottom metal out of a steel weed eater blade (same thickness as the DIP) - torque: start at 'hand tight' and then start shooting groups with your favorite ammo, consider it like a barrel tuner - tweak it a bit / shoot a group, tweak it a bit more - until you start to see the groups degrade.

Cool! I don't really DIY when it comes to cutting metal like that, just not enough space/tools. I don't mind spending a few bucks to get it.
