can any one give me there input on the savage model 10 fcp heavy barrel.308 as a 100-800 yard rifle i will be using this rifle to punch paper and coyote hunt in okla or what would be a better option

I had a Savage 10FP out of the box and it shot great. I used a load straight from the Hornady load book using 155gr Amax's. It would shot easy .75-.5 groups at 100yds and thats with the older plastic savage junky stocks.

Same here,
My 10FP shot the 155 A-max really well also. Probably a .75 minute gun, it had the HS stock. Shot it many time to 1000 and a few times beyod.

I had one in .243 and shot it till i wore out the barrel.. I sent it back to savage and had them put a .308 bull barrel on it. Loved it even more! It was fairly accurate with the crappy plastic stock, but with the new barrel and a good aftermarket stock with aluminum bedding block, that rifle would shoot between .75-.5 all day long as long as i did my part! I think it would be just fine for what you are wanting it to do.

Are there stocks not any good? I thought there new accu stocks were better than most aftermarket stocks due to the action bedding they came out with ??

If you don't have the money for the HS or Mcmillan the Accu-stock is great. Just not their standard plastic stocks. Most guys prefer a "Tactical" stock with a vertical grip which is why they go for an aftermarket stock. The accu stock is the best factory stock you'll get from a gun in it's price range. Get a model 10 with an accu-stock or even put a B&C on it for $200 and you'll be set. I had my model 10 308 shooting right at 1 MOA at 1000yd with the factory barrel on it. You can't go wrong with a Savage for out of the box accuracy.

I hit just fine at 930yrds with my stevens 200 even with my noodle barrel so I'm sure you would have no trouble with the 10FP. May need a new stock eventually but you can work with what you have for the time being. PM me if you want some info on some cheap upgrades to help.

The savage 10 is a great rifle. I've had two and both were sub m.o.a rifles out of the box. I currently have a 10fp with the H&S stock, it is very comfortable to shoot and carry. The rifle shoots great with 175-208 gr rounds that I have loaded. The only issue I have had was with the accutrigger locking up when I run the bolt hard. Other than that I don't really have any complaints. Another option could be finding a used Stevens rifle and build it how you want it for a reasonable price.

I had that happen when my M10 PC was new. I found that turning the trigger spring up just a little bit will prevent it. I can't feel the difference in the trigger but it doesn't drop the firing pin like it did when it was turned all the way down.

Yep. I did that for a bit too but as soon as you get rushed and slam that bolt down, man is it ever a pain to not have the trigger reset!

My 10FP is a hammer! I don't think you will be disappointed at all if you go that route!

As far as the accu-trigger. I've got a 10FP in .308 and a Model 12 in .223. I was having a lot of problems with the .223 trigger - lots. Put a SSS trigger on and it was so much better the 10FP just had to have one as well. Great upgrade.
I shoot of sandbags, but if I were to use a bipod I don't think that the standard stock would do well, flexes a lot. My rifles are older so I don't know how stiff the new accustocks are. Both of my rifles shoot good so I haven't upgraded the stocks - yet.

Shouldn't be too much with most loads.
After that range you are likely to have issues. Might make 900.
1K is a push without hot loads, limited bullet choice of getting lucky.
It's ok for MOA of rock or "hitting stuff". not for real accuracy work.
