Rifle Scopes Schmidt and Bender pmii 4-16x50 thoughts

I had a 4-16x42.
Beautiful scope, and held out in low light longer than a 4.5-27 razor 2. Like, shooting 6" steel at 250 off a truck window by moonlight good. On a pipeline in a pine thicket.
I let it go to chase a dirt bike itch (XR650R....). I'd like to have another, after using the old 12x42 super sniper again.
My only criticisms are that the lines on the single turn turret are real close together, and I like numbers on the reticle.

I have a 4-16x42 PMII with P4F reticle and it's a beautiful scope with outstanding optics. The 4-16x50 is the same scope only with a 50mm objective lens instead of 42mm. The turret feel is outstanding with clicks spaced out more than most other scopes in this class. Mine is also on a 308, so the single turn turret and available elevation adjustment is fine. as for going price, I'd think $1800-$2000 might be a fair price.

For $1500, I'd get it. Optically, it is wonderful. There is some tunneling on the low end like with most older design, but aside from that there is very little to complain about. In terms of pure image quality. I would probably take it over the newer 3-20x50 S&B design. The 3-20x is a better scope overall, but as far as pure optics go, the 4-16x42 and 4-16x50 S&Bs are really exceptional.
They are modern enough to already have good coatings and the comparatively simple optical design helps make it exceptionally well optimized.
Single turn elevation turret is sufficient for most uses.

I had a 4-16x42 P4FL version for a short while. I sold it to chase something else that I don’t even remember, ha. Really wish I’d never done that, it was a phenomenal piece of glass for a gas gun or shorter bolt gun. One of those things I wish I’d never sold! If you can get it for $1500 and it’s in good shape, RUN to buy it (or whatever the internet equivalent would be to running). The ST turret is what, 13mil if I recall? That should get the vast majority of calibers out to at least the 1000y line.

The only similarly configured scope that is better is Tangent Theta 3-15x50 and you will pay over $3k for that one.
If the reticle in the 4-16x50 PMII works for you, I'd go for it.

Excellent scope for what you're needs are, I sold one to a buddy (that still has it) so I get occasional visitation.I have a lot of respect for that scope, it saw heavy usage and never failed if it is a p4f reticle you should really enjoy it.I see them for sale occasionally but not for that price enjoy it.
I have them on Precision AR's in 556 and Sako TRG's in 308. As Lowlight mentioned, you will be limited on elevation, but nothing you can't do holdovers with if that becomes the case.
