I had a topic upp here not long ago about doing a WSSM in 243. Well funds where short as i had to pick of a 40x 22. So i have a 6mm rem now. shoots well enough, and was thinking about just doing a 6br as i would not have to open the bbolt face and could set back the factory barrel and make a 24" rifle. Ive looked up the load data, and my books dont go above 80gr, for the load.

Whats your thoughts on it and do any of of you shoot the 108 A-maxes out of it, or would it be too long for the round. Honestly i just think its cool, i want a short fat round. somthing differnt. Is it worth it ? main use for varmint hunting. I know i should keep it a 6mmrem, but have a 243 AI and ill keep it. but want somthing different.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

Go to 6mmbr.com and start reading there. It's a great round and can push any of the 6mm bullets, though you would be better of staying away from the 115's as they are a little too heavy.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

im a big fan of the 6 br and all its improved versions.
scary accurate and very easy to load for. low [ zero ] recoil,
whats not to like ?
only down fall is the feeding can be less than stellar in some mag systems

Re: school me on the 6 BR

now, i have read some on the round. as far as reloading goes, and the different neck sizes. Does the neck have to be TURNED on these or anything special dont with them.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

well 6mmbr.com has just about everything i need. Thanks for the heads up. Only question is they seem to me running the 27" + barrels. I want to go 24" Still ok

Re: school me on the 6 BR

Its a great target round but if your looking for a round to do tactical shooting I would look at the 6XC its just a tad bigger and will work better with the heavier bullets to 1000yds and is also very accurate.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

6BR's can be ridiculously accurate at 1000 yards. I was shooting with a family friend who holds (or did hold) a 1000yd world record. I was pulling targets and he was shooting his 6BR. I marked his first shot with the the spotter disc, and the second shot cleanly knocked the wood peg out of the spotter disc...

Re: school me on the 6 BR

First off what twist is your 6mm? My bench gun is 40x in 6 Dasher which is a wild cat of the 6br. I did a .269 turn neck and it wasn't that big of a deal to turn the necks. Fire forming the brass took a bit of time but it was well worth it in the end. I'm running 105A-Maxs at 2850fps with 32.6gr of Reloader 15 Lapua brass and cci 450 primers out of my Krieger 26' 1-8 twist.

used benchrest 6mmPPC take off 14" twist, Stainless Steel Shilen barrel for $75
1918 Savage 99 take down 250-3000 dickered down to $175
I drilled, tapped, cut threads, cut chamber, cut extractor relief cut.
I have $250 + scope into this, and have shot 8 groups with it. Maybe it will get another trip to the range, someday.

1) Old Rem700 22-250 for $180 at gunshow, took off the stock and barrel.
2) take off Krieger 6mmBRX 1 in 8" twist barrel with Harrell brake $100 at a forum
3) Old Choate Ultimate Sniper stock $40 at gun show
I cut threads, I cut 6mmBR chamber.
$320 plus scope into it.
I shot 5 groups.
It shoots the best.
This is defiantly going to get a second trip to the range.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

I just built a 6mmbr repeater off of a Stiller Predator action. 24" 1:8 twist Kreiger Rem Varmint barrel, McMillan A5. I'm getting 2830 fps with a 105 Berger VLD and 30.5gr Varget. Wicked accurate and a hoot to shoot. I built it primarily as a target rifle, but also plan on using it this year on antelope. I liked the results so much I have a build for a lightweight version in the works.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

I used to run a 8 twist 22" 6br for a while. 107 smk's at 2780 with varget or 105 amox's with r 15 at 2840. Very accurate round. Mag feeds best out of 223 mags either modified aics 223's or modified seekins 223's. I'd like to do another one someday. They are a really fun to shoot.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

Darren, is you 6BR Stiller repeater or single shot?

If it is a repeater, how do you make it feed reliability from magazine?

Re: school me on the 6 BR

Yes, it is a repeater. I've done the Mike Bryant mag mod, and it feeds pretty well, especially since I played around with the position of the magazine spring on te follower.

Re: school me on the 6 BR

Saw Darren and Jason out at the Oroville clay pits yesterday, no new pics or anything from my end, but I do have a pretty great example of what a 168 gr Amax does when going through multiple layers of metal and plastic. perfect example of proper expansion.

Back to the topic though, that Stiller action was smooth as butter. Very nice and worth the money IMO.
