Scope base height question

I have the Savage 110 Storm and i picked up a set of scope bases that screw directly into the top.

One of the bases is taller than the other.

Noob question, but which should be up front (toward the end of the barrel), the short one or the tall one?

I've taken a few good looks so far and came to two different thought processes.

The first is that the scope follows a flat/horizontal plane when the barrel cants.
The second is that the scope follows the plane of the barrel.

Both might work but would require very different zeroing patterns

All I have ever used is one piece bases on the few savage rifles I have owned but if you have a 12" straight edge set the bases on the action and lay the straight edge across them.
Any misalignment will be immediately noticeable, just going off of memory the thicker base would be the rear.

Ok great. That helped. Looks like I don’t need/shouldn’t use the different height bases on this rifle.

From what i can tell, yes. 110 or 10 doesn't any longer mean long action or short action, respectively.

Not at all /s Took me forever to find the right base for this thing because of 10/110/SA/LA/Flat/Rounded/Etc.

Looking online for different parts has been a hassle. Maybe worth it, though, this thing shoots super well now!
