Rifle Scopes scope cover

i bought this book recently. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/01410...YEGJ1V4XXA5ZHSP As you can see at the picture of the book, there is a strange kind of scopecover on their scopes. Does someone knows what it is and what it is for?
