I just bought a Steyr SSG69 Pii in a package deal,,, mainly wanted the scope it came with for my 6mm-223 (scope was a MK4 8.5-25x50mm). The MK4, I felt was too much magnification for this gun. I'm leaning towards a USO ST-10 MOA or a Nikon Monarch 4.5-14x Mildot; I have these too scopes in my collection and the ST-10 is on my Rem 700 hunting custom 308 and the Nikon is on my custom 1022. Or I can go out and buy another scope. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

If you are trying to keep cost around $1K or less, the ST-10s are hard to beat. The new 3-9x FFP, and 10x HD Super Snipers are a good buy as well, and less money.

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

I'd be inclined to put the ST-10 on the Steyr. I think it's more of a "Tactical" scope and the SSG is definitely considered by most to be a "Tactical" rifle. I don't know how much the Nikon goes for but it seems a little much for a 1022. Even a "custom" 1022. I'd put that one on the Remington... But then again, I'm not much of a .22 shooter. I know some of you guys are fanatical about .22's and can invest heavily in them so don't take offense at that. It also seems to me that the variable magnification on the Nikon would lend itself well to hunting.

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

The Nikon goes for about $300, my 1022 cost hoovers around the $700 mark, you are right, the Nikon is overkill as most shots are at 4.5X. The ST-10 currently on my hunting rifle
Seen here (still tacticool hunting rifle).. I love this thing, I've engage targets out to 600 yards

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

Steyr need to be mated with Kahles to get those submoa babies

.

Seriously though i'd go with 2.5-10x42 IOR or something in those magnification/obj range as it will suit the rifle best (not sure what your main application will be). Kahles is probably too expensive in US unless you are willing to buy used one.

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

Damn good rifle.Have owned one for about 7 years and like it alot.I got a USO 1.8x10 slimline on mine with Erek elavation knob and like the combo alot.

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

I have an original ZF-69 Khales 6X in the original 26mm throw lever QD throw
lever mounts, I really don't need. I now have a Zeiss Diavari DA 1.5x6 30mm
sniper scope that was taken off a HK G3SG1 Sniper rifle. It is in a set of Styer
SSG 30mm throw lever mounts. The Khales would keep your rifle original.
I consider the SSG a 600yd rifle, though I have engaged targets at much farther ranges than that. It is really a mid range rifle in my estimation. Deadly!

or you can use a harris bipod adapter and use a regular harris bipod.. adapter is less than $10

Re: Scope for a Steyr SSG69 PII

I did consider the Harris... great product. But I just can't stand the overall bulk it adds to the weapon when the bipod is folded. It looks like an after-thought... an added on. Sure, we all add a lot of stuff to our rifles, but I was hoping to achieve a more incorporated looking package.

I wouldn't mind a 10x42 mil-dot Kahles. Do you have one? I could use another scope.

but until then, I am very happy with the current reticle. I even made it phone wallpaper:

I lapped the scope rings today. The so called quick-detach mounts from Steyr were never that. Really a pain to detach. but after the rings were lapped, I realized the rings are indeed "quick-detach". Although, the main reason I lapped the rings was to minimize stress on the scope tube.
