I recently picked up a Rem700 that came with a scope that looks like a Kahles but because it was painted over a number of times there are very few markings that make it difficult to identify. It somewhat reminds me of a ZF 95 that I once owned in basic appearance, but if it's actually a Kahles (or any other quality scope) I don't know and I hope that I can get some help here. The body is steel and there was a rubber sun shade that look like it was shrunk wrapped on the front but because it was half dry rotted I ended up cutting it off.
The rifle was aquired with a (terrible) camo job to include the scope and I was able to get it off, but it appears that the optic was painted black as it appears that at one time it was an OD Green color, and as far as I know not many scopes came from the factory in that shade of green.
I still wasn't able to see any manufacture's mark anywhere on the optic except for what you see here. I don't know why it has that "radioactive" symbol on there as there is absolutely no glow to the reticle.
The bottom of the objective bell appears to have a purge screw with a red sealant.
The elevation turret has a drum calibrated for the M118 round. I accidently over tightened the drum cap and sheared the cap from the threads...oops.
The reticle features a range estimater.
The optics are nice and bright and give a crisp image. I did take it to the range for a sight-in and it not only held the zero but the groups were sub-MOA. I've tried a cheaper scope on the same rifle and I couldn't get a group under 1.5" with the same ammo and the zero would wander. The mystery optic appears to be of decent quality...I just have no idea what make & model it is and hopefully I can get some answers here...any ideas???
