I recently acquired this in a collection that I bought. Amongst the collection was a new unfired Barrett M82 from 2004. The seller stated that he had an optic to go with it and presented me with this. I know it is a US optics and I believe that it is the SN 3 model. The scope does not look to ever have been mounted and it does have a Horus vision reticle. I believe to be H 27 or a variant of such. All of the SN 3 models that I see typically have a larger elevation knob( Erek) . This one has capped turrets that appear to be MIL based where is everything I see in literature showed MOA , can someone shed me a little info on this? Anyone have an idea what it’s worth? Us Optics is calling me back Monday with a little data, but I figured u guys would know .

SN-9 US Optics. The Hubble of scopes. Each one hand built and custom ordered. Most were 40X but there were some 30x done as well. Not sure why JBW2 made them, but I think he wanted to really exercise his creativity!!! Looks like that one might have a Horus (Christmas Tree) reticle in it. Which is crazy! So someone must have ordered it by checking off every box on the USO order sheet just to say they have every thing in one scope! That is wild!!!

If you want to sell it, I will definitely buy!!!

They are pretty unique. External adjustments. Can drive a Jeep over one. But also not great field scopes. Putting one on a Barrett M82 is kind of silly! That said, I have mine on my MRAD... but it's a range gun. My Barrett runs a USO 10x.

Worth... Last one I bought was $1100 (they are well out of date), but I got a kind of bargain. Probably around $1500 - 1800. Maybe more if there are two of us who are nuts out there! They are now kind of a cool retro scope and there are 'better' things out there than a SN-9. Including most of the other vintage USO scopes. But it is a wicked cool piece for a USO geek like me!

Very cool catch!

I tried numerous times today to get in contact with anyone at US Optics today but was unable to. I also looked up the SN9 that u said this was and saw several pictures that showed the way it was mounted to several platforms. After looking at those images and the ones from this link which details all of the Us Optics scopes from that era, it seems to resemble the SN3 more so. Not doubting your word at all, as I have never owned a USO product before this one. I wish they would have answered so I would have definitive info. I am more than willing to sell it to you as u know more so from first hand knowledge what it is. Here is the link I mentioned earlier. http://www.louiscandell.com/pdf/fire/2004_unitedstatesoptics_catalog.pdf

I think you are right... that it is an SN-3 with an SN-9 style early front bell for adjusting parallax. It seems to have internally adjustable turrets. Sorry, I was looking at it on a phone last night. And didn't notice that the turrets were part of the erector. The Parallax is adjusted by turning the front bell, not on the erector as on the later scopes.

Should be a 22x. And actually WOULD be much more at home on a Barrett. The challenge with these in fielded conditions is you had to reach way forward to adjust your parallax. Most of the Barretts were fielded with fixed 10x. Which doesn't seem like a lot of power, but for an anti-material rifle worked fine and was really rugged.

I would give USO a couple of days. They won't be able to help much via phone. But if you e-mail them at: [email protected] They will get back to you pretty quick. Put in the title "Info on older US Optics Scope" and include the serial number. They will be able to get the date info, etc. for you.

Here is an SN-9 on a .338 Lapua. It's as massive as it looks!!!

Fun picture of the SN-9 done by someone here on SH many, many years ago!! These are 35 - 40X scopes.

I'd still be interested in your SN-3 as I have a project rifle coming together that it will be perfect for...

But first I'd try and get info from USO. PM inbound!

And my apologies for mis-identifying it from the phone pictures... my bad!

Cheers,

Sirhr
