What's yalls opinions on scope mounts. Right now I have a Remington model 700. I use a leupold 1 peice scope mount, I'm not sold on it. I was thinking about goin with a picidary rail. What would be my best bet for this particular set up? Remington model 700 sps, Nightforce scope. I use this set up for hunting and I'm pretty rough on my equipment. I need durability and reliability. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Scope mounts

You need a picante rail.....nacho cheese flavor at that....
Actually, I'd suggest a Picatiny rail designed for your Remington 700.
As for rings, you'll need to take a look at your scope and how high it needs to be above receiver so that it doesn't interfere or contact the gun.
There are several rail manufacturers that you can choose from.....since you said your were rough on stuff, I'd suggest a decent set of beefier rings. Take a look at Warne, Badger, Seekins rings and rails...it's hard to go wrong with any of those...they do vary in price a bit but if your putting nice glass on the gun then don't skimp on the mounting hardware.

Re: Scope mounts

I just picked up a Spuhr mount for my S&B... I gotta say that this is the beefiest looking mount I've ever had on a gun. It's expensive, but has a built in bubble level, which is nice.

One of my friends took a pretty hard fall on his rifle during a match using this kind of mount, and things worked just fine for him afterwards. Actually, I believe his story is told in the current Spuhr catalog.

If you look around at my posts, I was debating mounting options in late December, after getting my Schmidt and Bender. I grappled with this issue because of the price of the mount. Then I realized how much I have invested in the scope and gun, and the fact that the mount is a crucial piece in making it all work well together. Seemed like a no-brainer at that point.

It definitely isn't your only choice. I've heard some people really like Seekins rings, and have known some guys who swore by Badger Ordnance in the past. My other rings were from TPS, and I was quite satisfied with those as well.

Re: Scope mounts

SEE thats why I come here..my damn phone cant spell worth a crap but you guys know your stuff.. I agree if your going to go with a nice rig why skimp on what holds it all together. I have the 3.5x15x50 NXS scope. I feel like the rail I have now (Leupold) is not inline with my barrel. Thanks again for the help. Im new to this site and have great experince with you guys..

Don't skimp on the foundation for your scope. Good one pice picatinny bases can be found but you will pay for it. This is not an area to dismiss like I said. After that, the rings I have just used are the M10 from ARC. Excellent setup
