If money was not an issue what scope would you pick out of these and why?

What the scope will be used for: F class and Tactical long range shooting. 1000 yrds is about the max. .308 cartridge

What reticle do you suggest too. This scope has to be a dual purpose. No speed matches. Mostly paper punching with the rig and steel targets.

Brands I have picked out.

Schmidt & Bender
Nightforce
Hensoldt
Premier

Re: Scope options?

I have read the the P4F over the P4. I have mark 4's and a couple NF scopes at the moment and awaiting a S&B. I am pretty set after reading S&B's company description.

I quote:and you'll get an idea why Schmidt & Bender scopes have been called "the best in the world" by writers and hunters around the globe.

Since 1957, in a small town where Germany's legendary optics industry was founded hundreds of years ago, Schmidt & Bender has been devoted to one thing only: building the finest riflescope money can buy.

Scopes are all we make. We don't make binoculars, or cameras, or crystal, or "amateur" optics, or anything else that would distract us from our commitment to the hunter and shooter.

Some companies build as many scopes in a week as we build in a year. And that's OK. We've never been concerned about quantity. Our concern is with the hunter who has climbed all day, or sat in a blind all night, who has traveled for days or saved for years or who has braved rain and cold and snow for one shot at a trophy. Our concern is with the police officer or the soldier who may have one shot to save a life.

There is an old saying in hunting that "you can't hit it if you can't see it." Our job is to make sure you see it. Under conditions that other scopes simply are not built to handle.

If you've not tried a Schmidt & Bender riflescope, we encourage you to borrow one from a friend or dealer and try it. At dusk, at first light, even by moonlight. Once you've seen things our way, you'll never look at—or through—a riflescope the same way again.

Oh, the lion and the flashlight? True story.
The lion lost.

Re: Scope options?

"Bubble style" holes or open mildots are great if you are holding over and your target is covered by the mildot, and I just find it easier to see instead of covering up the target completely . Also the .2 mil marks on the windage are great for holding wind. The .1 mil marks (between the 2nd and 3rd mildot)on the elavation are great to distinguish what mil you need for hold overs as well they are awesome for Ranging. Like having them numbered in a Mil Gap reticle. The P4F has nothing out till the first Mil hash. Just ends at .7 or somthing? Not a fan of that at all. If you plan on doing some tactical matches Both reticles will work but I find that the H2CMR is better suited for the game then the P4F.

Re: Scope options?

Flynlow3, I shoot F/TR with a NF NXS 12-42x56 with the NP-R1 reticle, I have also used this scope in a long range steel challenge. It won't work for a practical/tactical match but for F-Class and long range steel were time is not an issue, I think it a great combination.

Re: Scope options?

From shooting at several locations aside over 100 other shooters I would say NF AND S&B are the most popular in that order but I would say its cost driven. I have seen a couple premiers but only about 2 out of 120 not to say that their not good, I'm just speaking towards popularity.
