Just working the bugs out of my new rifle. I have a 8-32 x 56 NF scope, whats a good power to use at that 300 yard distance? I have been using 32 power but im also near sighted which brings up another topic.

Re: Scope power at 300 yards...

Depends on the type of shooting your doing. 32x is pretty strong for a field rifle but for BR it's almost not enough. I used to run a 12x42x56 NF on a BR rifle and wouldnt go down any less power.

For field/tactical/hunting rifles, 20-22x is about the max for me as I typically dont dial the power down.

Just target. I should have put more info up.
Its a 338 Lapua Savage. I almost got the 12-42x56 NF, maybe i should have. I see alot of guys, youtube etc.... shoot 1000 yards to 1 mile with the NF 5.5-22x56

Re: Scope power at 300 yards...

I like shooting one minute at 10x. Aim small - group small.
At longer ranges I switch to half-minute at 20x.
Sometimes I dabble in-between just for the hell of it.

I have a 6-24 on my Savage 110 and use 14x even out past 800. I know alot of my buddies use the higher settings, but like the one guy said dial till it looks good to you.

These 2 rifles have 6-24 Burris Sigs, I usually dont have to crank it up to 24 power, can see very well with 20X at300yds.

Where mine stays for 90% of the shooting I do....I'll use more when working up loads, but seldom use max power when shooting steel or hunting. The field of view with this scope at 15X is really nice. I seldom miss seeing bullet strikes.
