Re: scope question

Shooting on a budget can be tough. I see so many folks justifying buying cheap scopes based on their available budgets. The problem with this is a person who is on a budget should do everything in their power to not waste money, or make every dollar count.

Now, dont get me wrong, I am not saying everyone should go out and purchase an S&B or Premier if they can not afford it, or if your type of shooting doesn't warrant it. Mortgage money is for the mortgage.

The thing about scopes is their value is much like car purchases. Once you buy and mount it, the value drops a considerable amount. This is the same for a Nightforce and for a Simmons. The difference is the Nightforce will retain more value than the Simmons.

My point is, optics are one of the most important part of your rig. You should get the best that you can reasonable afford. If you can get a used Vortex or Leupold you are also getting lifetime warranty, decent glass, and when you finally get your US optics, you can move that scope to your 22.

SWFA, CameralandNY, and Natches all have used and reconditioned scopes at killer prices. If not you can also barter and trade here on the hide.

Re: scope question

If you could swing $250-300 for a 10x ss you would at least be able to turn around and sell it getting most if not all your money back. with the centerpoint when it comes time to upgrade you will have a hard time selling it. or God forbid it breaks ... then you're buying two scopes. Just a thought.

Re: scope question

thanks for the input guys, i know when i get the us optics i want the centerpoint will be moved to a sons 22 most likley or given away just hate to keep the 700p in the box till july!!! just was thinking since i only have a 100yrd range to use the centerpoint would get me by with getting behind the rifle and working on flinch till i get the cash up for the u.s. optics.... dang kids are worse than the president on my budget

Re: scope question

Oh , I know exactly what you are talking about. I live in Northern Colorado and I can pick up a kick-azz off the shelf true precision rifle. Bighorn action , KRG stock, Chanlynn bbl, Thunderbeast can(after stamp of course) and choice of S&B Stiener, USO ,NF etc etc. All from local vendors. Not in months, but by the end of the day.

Seems tempting, but until the kids are out of the house (or I hit the lotto), that will have to wait.

Thing is I am content with my R700/ B&C, and Weaver Tac, I can hit 700Y in various wind and weather. I still smile when I go to the range.
