I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to getting someone else to sight in a rifle. I bought my son a new scope and a new rifle and then after moounting the scope and then bore sighting it on a target, I had him shoot a few rounds. He was off target by a good ways, low and a little to the right consistently. I then shot a few rounds, and was shooting high and to the left consistently. A total distance between the two groups are approx. 10 inches at only 30 yards. Nothing is wrong with the mounting, scope or rifle. Is the sighting of a rifle dependent on the user? I have discussed the view through the scope with my son, he is almost 12 years old and this is his third year of hunting, and he says everything is fine. Do I just adjust the scope for his use only? Insight needed about this and why it is so would be appreciated.

Re: scope sighting different users

thanks for the responses and the explanations. Sounds like I just need to let him sight it in for himself with the advise of being consistent in his placement of his cheek on the stock.

Re: scope sighting different users

While that might work, it would be better to explore the relationship between parralax and position and make sure you are both using proper fundamentals.
Teach him right.

Fixing the problem correctly will have benefits down the road.

To answer the original question, no point of impact shouod not change between shooters or between positions, it it is, you are dealing with an issue that I would recommend solving, not working around.

Good luck in your shooting and hunting.

Re: scope sighting different users

Yes, different shooters get different results from the same rifle but only a little bit. Shoot at 100 yards or at least 50. 30 yards is too close to get good results on zeroing.
