I recently purchased an AE MKII and now its time to start glass shopping! I've set my budget at $2500... maybe that's a little conservative.

I am leaning heavily towards a Nightforce F1 but I want to make sure I'm not leaving anything else out of consideration. I'm just a casual shooter that wants a good, dependable optic for my new to me rifle. I have a Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 right now and the magnification range and EMDR seems to work for me so I am looking at the Army Spec F1.

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

if 2500 is your budget i would look at the the vortex razor. they are nice!! i cant afford one so ima settle for a pst ffp. i know a lot of guys with razors that love em, even more than the nightforce.

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

Yep... The Razor with the EBR-2B reticle... That's what I'm awaiting to arrive. I really like the idea of the pure holds and they appear to have got their design right. The glass is said to be excellent and the price is right. Get on it!

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

Vortex Razor is a good choice but if you plan on getting a NF then get one of the "civilian" F1s for the main reason being you get a better reticle choice. I wouldn't spend over $2k for a scope and get a standard mildot reticle. The MLR2 reticle is more usable.

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

No razors turrets zero stop arent near nightforce quality and the several razors I have looked thru all had varying quality of glass Nf all the way tried and true and tough as nails

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

are you strictly looking for a new optic?

You can find some really nice like new optics around on this site for some killer prices.

seen several premiers go for 2500 on the dot and some S&B's go for just a little more.

whats a few hundred more when your budget is already $2500

The Razor HD's do have zero stop. Glass quality is on par with all the top scopes. Excellent choice.

im aware that they do but they dont function on the level that the nf zero stop does Razor zs is quite mushy and have several cases of the inner turret stripping out. i run my gear hard as hell and every piece i run has to have a flawless record of performance or i wont run it no matter what the cost is

Guess I'd also recommend that you check out the gen 4 IOR's if you are set on purchasing new. Amazing glass for that $2K level.....you'd have enough left in your budget to get really high quality rings and base.

Also...as was recommended...cruise the used optics here...you can score a premium scope for what you have in your budget.

USO SN3

Solid scope, solid CS if needed (esp good if you go used). JBW3 told me when I first expressed a concern about warranty on a used unit "if it says USO on it, we stand behind it".

Re: Scope suggestions: help broaden my search?

I have had warranty issues with both IOR and Vortex scopes. Three times on the same vortex so I am not sure I would go that route again but maybe I just drew a bad model

Can you explain further on the warranty issues? I just ordered a PST for my AR and if theres warranty issues and people having problems with their high end models glass then my PST is going right back.
