Savage 12 F/TR 308 WIN with a 30" barrel. I will be shooting 600 yards at most but mostly 300 yards. This scope will not be needed for hunting only bench target. Weight is not an issue. Millett has good prices but I've read on here that falcon menace and SWFA SS are the way to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

The SWFA hold their value and have a lifetime warranty.I've had a 10X on a Remington PSS for eight years and I shoot steel out to 800 yards with no problems.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

as much as I like the SS, if I was just shooting from a bench, I think I'd want something with a finer reticle.

ps: maybe Bushnell Elite... 3200 or 4200 series

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

I can vouch for the Bushnell 3200 at that distance...it tracks true, holds zero, and can be found right now for under $200 if you look around. Use the extra money to buy ammo or put it in the bank to start saving for your dream scope(whatever that may be).

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

Take a look at the Konus M 30 6.5-24X50 at SWFA for $299.95. My brother has one for over a year on his SPS Tactical. Excellent glas and resolution.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

All the Bushnell 4200's are being blown out at Natches right now. They are not a bad buy at all. I would get one but I just purchased one of the FFP Mil/Mil Bushnell's form Midway and ordered of the new SS 1x4 from SWFA, so I have to stay off the Natches site by orders of the family.

I'm looking at a Bushnell for my .300WM project... Which 4200 did you buy and for what platform?

Thanks...

For shooting from the bench, it is very hard to neat the weaver T-series scopes.

Best choice out there haha

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

I got a Bushnell 3200 at midway on sale for $225 (fixed 10x mil/mil 1" tube), and just grabbed a couple of those 3x12 4200 from Natchez $535 (mil/mil 30mm tube), they are going on some extra 10-22's that need glass, just for plinking. The 4200 would be great on a 308 to 600.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

I have a bushnell 4200 6-24*50 on a 7-08 rem and it's great for 600 meters, the only bad thing with this scope is the size of the reticule and maybe the 50 MOA of elevation if you want to shoot further and don't have a 20MOA or + mount .

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

+1 on the vortex viper. I have their 6.5x20-44 on my remington 308 and have no complaints.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

Just bought a Konus m30 4-16x40 scope at B&H Photo for $230. Great deal. Waiting for my savage F/TR to come in to mount it on. The 6.5-25 was on sale for $250 but on backorder.

Re: Scope under $500 to shoot 600 yards 308 Win

I've run a Falcon Menace 4X14X44 and it's pretty solid. Built like a tank but gets the job done. That's a loooong barrel you have there.

Weaver Grand Slam 3-10 MIL/MIL

+1 on the Konus M30. I have one on my 308 SPS tactical. Shot it at 600 yards this passed Wednesday and the scope works mighty fine. Crisp clicks on the turrets and very clear.
