Got a question to anyone who's up n' up on McMillan M86s used by the Navy. Were they all the in-house McMillan action or were some of the M86s built on tuned Remington actions? The reason I ask is I know McMillan built many rifles on Remington actions as well as build with their own action.
Another question though may be a stupid one, did McMillan use the "S" shaped bolt handle only on their proprietory action or did they fit the "S" handle on remington actions as well?

Re: SEAL M86

They used to be made by a man named Harris until he committed a felony and had to leave the industry. He was partnered with mcmillan for a while and I think they still use the same action.

Re: SEAL M86

Wes Harris took over the "McMillan" company building guns in the late 80's/early 90's. I had two M86s--one in .308, the other in .300 WM. Both shot like lasers. They were built with a proprietary action, that was similar to the Remington 700. They had stainless steel barrels with a polygonal type rifling. Kind of miss them...

Re: SEAL M86

Mcmillan made those actions long before Harris. Harris was an accountant that took over the company and tried to copy the stocks; nowhere good as the originals. Eventhough quality control wasn't the best they managed to land a military contract. Still remember their brochure w/ a bipod mounted backwards!

Re: SEAL M86

It is interesting to hear about these behind the scene drama in the industry.

Forgive my ignorance, but is H-S precision related to McMillan or Harris at any time in the past?

HS was in Phoenix in the past before they moved to South Dakota.
As fpr the M86 backwards bipod pick-photographers have too much artistic license!
