Rifle Scopes see through scope mounts??

Re: see through scope mounts??

Such mounts need different height cheekwelds to use the sights or scope properly. Usually they end up with the scope mounted too high for comfortable use. I wouldn't even consider them unless I had a height adjustable cheek rest; and even then, it takes time to make the adjustment.

Re: see through scope mounts??

You spelled it right. I never saw a need for one. I don't need my firearms for combat, and any other application allows me to call it a day if my gear goes South. It may be a less than optimal day, but any day nobody's shooting at me is a good one. Having been through a few of the bad ones, I can tell you the difference is truly significant.

Re: see through scope mounts??

I'm with the others on see-through mounts! Many are inferior quality. They really became popular years ago when scopes were not nearly as reliable as they are today and would fog easily or break a delicate reticle or something. Today, most shooters don't need to worry about those things as much. Go with a lower powered scope like Killer Spade 13 suggested, or if you feel the need for QD mounts - get some decent ones that at least have some chance of returning to zero a second time. The Leupold models aren't bad and Warne also makes some decent QD rings.

Re: see through scope mounts??

I can attest to the repeat zero of QD rings in both the leupold QRW and Warne. I had zero change in POI with the QRWs after about 5 years of use on my stupid-accurate bolt rifle, and I had to take the scope off EVERY TIME I put it in my hardcase for transport....so somewhere around 8 bagillion attach/removals. Honestly, they didnt move 1/2" from zero, EVER. I was always careful to return the levers to the exact position and to slide the key lugs forward on the picatinney rail so they made solid lug contact on the key.

Ive only had the Warnes for 6 months, but after 20+ removals Ive noticed no shift. These rings are on a less accurate AR (1-2 MOA) so I cant be AS accurate with zero deviation, but if its there its definetly less than an inch.

Im a big fan of having back-up sights, shit happens, and with two full lever rotations the scope is off and irons are ready to rock. The longest part of the process is finding a place to set the scope once its off.

Re: see through scope mounts??

See though mounts/rings are generally pure shite as others have mentioned. I would skip them at all costs.

QD is always an option, but as with everything...not all QD mounts/rings were created equal.

What particular application do you foresee needing either see-through or QD capability on a bolt gun?
