Seeking why US soldier killed 16

Re: Seeking why US soldier killed 16

The only one that truly knows is the guy who did it.
What’s sad is that the lack of information is leading to speculation. Everything from the fact that this guy had a minor head injury a few years ago caused him to do it, to PTSD caused it.
Worse still is that if this crap continues or his legal defense uses either as a rationale for his action it could impact the lives of other people who had nothing to do with this.
For instance, it could perpetuate the idea that people with actual PTSD are unstable and dangerous, or that people who bumped their heads at some point are somehow more likely to do this sort of thing.
Bottom line is this guy was nuts, he did some nutty shit that is going to raise the risk for every man we have operating in that region. Not that it was safe there in the first place.
This guy had psych evals to qualify as a sniper, he was cleared medically for deployment. He just for whatever reason decided to kill a bunch of people.

His reasoning doesn’t really matter to me; I personally hope he is executed or turned over to the Afghans to face justice there. Because regardless of what these people were up to, walking in and then killing women and children like this guy apparently did, is going to cost other Americans their lives.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the SF team operating in those villages attempting to win the hearts and minds of the people.
Because thanks to this one guy, any ground that had been gained on that front has just been lost.

Re: Seeking why US soldier killed 16

Look to the systematic failures between him, his NCO Support Channel, the ECP, and we will find out how this was allowed to happen. The entire military system revolving around this failed. His NCO Support Channel(SGM to Platoon Sergeant) failed the Soldier. The NCO in charge of the ECP failed because he/she allowed a SINGLE, ALONE, Soldier to leave the base.(whether in a vehicle, or on foot, NO ONE leves the base alone, and NO ONE leavves the base at 0300 without orders or a convoy or some type of mission)
There was systematic failure of the entire system that contributed to this event and those within that system MUST be held accountable as well as the Staff Sergeant.
