Hey ya'll, this is 'off-the-wall' and 'out-of-the-blue' but I'm thinking that there's SOMEBODY here that knows of, and/or deals with these things.

We're all-the-sudden in the market for one (or possibly two) 20'ers, though if there were such-a-thing anymore of a 30'er that'd be perfect. No, our yard won't hold a 40'er.

There is one 'shop' local to us, but seeing as we're in the center of the hemisphere, they are quite proud of their boxes, and want in the area of 4 grand (Canuckistanian) plus taxes and delivery, for one 20'er.

I'm thinking that there has to be someone out there, hopefully a Hide member so-as-to help keep things 'in-house' and support a fellow member... that could make this a lucrative deal to get one (or two) to us here in Winnipeg.

Not exactly 'long range marksmanship' related, but,,, the more I/we save with this investment, then the more we can focus on the shooting sports. :D

So I had to ask here, and if you want to hit me back via PM that'd be perfectly fine/great. Someone here's gotta be a trucker/shipper/dispatcher with a connection and whatnot.

    Blessings,

    Sean

Thank you Navy, I appreciate this so-far.

The 'local' has the items on hand, and we've gone to look at some of them. The one in particular that had some-sort of 'chemical spill' inside (stunk to high-heaven) and the floor definitely needed replacing,,, he was going to give us a 'huge deal and price-break' at only charging us $3,750.00 plus delivery.

    Yeah,,,, NO.

There has GOT to be a better way, a better deal, and a better offering than that.

And again, that 'deal' above was for a 20 footer.

My parents just bought one that’s a 40 foot and had it delivered for $2750. It’s also a tall one. They were originally told $3700 Thur they found this one for a deal.

this is in Texas by the way.

The only bad I have ever read about is the possible flooring chemicals used to protect the wood.
Maybe you got some friends with a big gooseneck trailer?? Could be cheaper buying and driving. Just think of the possible price drops after the election.

There are a few grades of the containers around here. "One trip" containers are usually in a bit better condition and are north of 4k. Well-used ones go for much cheaper. Tall go for more as well.

Problem now is they are hard to find (ay least in New England. Schools, restraints, retail and hospitals are buying or renting them out due to COVID. Instead of getting rid of their furniture or inventory, they are storing it all - in shipping containers. That is driving price up big time. Knew someone who bought one a few years ago and you could deal then. Now, there is no deal because people are lining up to get them. Two local places are done getting any until next year - they just can't get enough from the ports.

Folks are also figuring out that they last longer than sheds and are more secure.

Actually, I like the 40' idea and cutting it in half. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself, but I'm old.

Definitely looking into this, more. Keep it up, guys. If we're going to be paying 'this kinda money' the first thing I'd say is I'd rather support one of the members here, (trucker who needs miles?) than one of these local-yokels who think I oughta pay for their kids Harvard education.

I bought one about 4 years ago . Paid $2000 for a 20 ft. I know prices have went way up since. At the time you could get a 40 for about $7-800 dollars more than a 20 which is a no - brainer, unfortunately the 40 wouldn't fit where I was gonna put it. The cutting a 40 is half is a real good idea. Like was previously stated, your problem is going to be the transportation cost.

You want the floor to be in descent shape , its not a deal killer cause you can replace it or overlay on top of it. And check the doors to make sure they open and close easily . The container can get twisted out of square and screw up the doors. Most have a very small vent on each end that really doesn't vent shit , so most people opt to have some bigger vents installed if its gonna be sitting in the sun or your storering something with vapors.

Most of the people that sell them don't actually have any, they just get them drop-shipped (drop-delivered?) from a big shipper on the coast. So, I'd stay way from local yokels because they might just be trying to take a skim off the tranasction, and in fact do nothing for you. So you might call a seller in your closest port city, to see if you can get a good deal there. One of the main price differences is the delivery charge. If you live near a big town that's not so bad, but I have had to pay milegae to to get them delivered out in the country, sometimes and extra $800USD or so. Also keep in mind the floors are wooden not metal, so they will get wet, mold and rot out. The first one I bought, I thouht the whole thing would be metal, not have a wood floor. Boy was I disappointed. Also, the strength is in the siding. If you cut out enough of the siding, it will bend like a limp dick when you pick it up with a loader. Don't ask me how I know! I has to bury the first one I bought in a hole just to get rid of the damn thing...

Yes never stick your loader forks under it to pick it up for if you do you will hear the sound of wood cracking and splitting, I learned that on the very first box we purchased. Its a quick learning curve ........
