Re: Shooting at University of Alabama

News reports are stating the woman in question is a faculty member who may have taken vengeance upon fellow members who denied her tenure.

It is early of course but this looks like a disgruntled employee case.

The guy who was the firearms guru at my department when I first came on used that phrase, often. I hadn't heard that since he retired.

I don't understand how anyone could ever get shot in what is clearly a "gun-free zone".

Re: Shooting at University of Alabama

This is one for the books alright...

The shooter, apparently a disgruntled instructor not granted tenure, was very resentful toward those she blames for her dissapointment. In addition to this is the story that emerged yesterday that this same "Scholar" apparently skated in the "Accidental" shooting death of her younger brother twenty years ago. In Massachussets. With a handgun...

So a person who has already killed someone with a handgun (albeit deemed accidental at the time)is allowed on campus
while the legally vetted, and licensed to be armed, are not.

This constitutes rational thought in "big academia" to combat the threat of asymetric violence toward their students and faculty?

She shot her brother with a 12ga shotgun. The 9mm handgun was used on campus in the gun free zone.

Yep, and she "accidentally" shot her brother with that shotgun three times before managing to get her finger off the trigger. What with all the recoil and such, it can be hard to not keep squeezing over and over. Completely understandable reaction. Then she took flight from police. They were about to book for the real deal before mom called the station and said she was asking mom how to unload it when it accidentally went off.

Apparently, it was a Glock shotgun, and required pulling the trigger to strip. Totally accidental, so I don't see why it should have kept her from owning a gun later, let alone get locked up for a decade or three.

Where do I sign up for one?

Re: Shooting at University of Alabama

I just learned that my former professor, Dr. Gopi Podila, was killed by this psycho. I worked in his lab for a year, a good man with two teenage daughters. Too bad someone wasn't packing to take care of her on the spot.

To bad it would make him a criminal to protect himself and the lives of the others in that room. Kinda a messed up law, don't you think?

I would like one also. Should wear it to the next political rally.

Re: Shooting at University of Alabama

The beast is linked to the attempted bombing of a Harvard professor; two pipe bombs were delivered to his home, they did not explode.

This is looking weirder by the day and there will be political ramifications to follow. We can expect considerable demand for concealed carry laws to be expanded as there is likely to be law suit pressure for expanded security and magnatometer screening for every classroom, lecture hall, library, and any other building on every campus in America.

If they won't allow us to provide for our own protection, they have a duty to provide it. As they clearly are not, why would they be any less liable for casualties than a city with heaving sidewalks, or a store with insufficent lighting in their parking lots.

Here is some background on adjunct professor Batshit;

Re: Shooting at University of Alabama

I caught a small blurb last night on the news about how a congressman is tied to the initial investigation of her brothers death, lots of lost paperwork, shoddy police reports, etc... Could(hopefully) spell trouble for him. Wasn't really paying too much attention so I don't remember his name. Another thing, this wacked ass bitch bowed down @ the altar of the big O (according to one of her students). I'm sure there will be a lot more good info coming soon, from one news source anyway(since only one REAL one remains).
