I did something similar, but more "bubba tech". I just took a bunny ear bag and used self adhesive industrial Velcro tape on the bottom of the bag, and corresponding tape on a steel plate, D&T'ed for 1/4-20. The plate stays mounted to the camera adapter and in the tripod, the bag ends up in the pack when hiking into an area. If need be, the bag can be left on the plate, held by the velcro, when leaving.
Seemed to work for me as an inexpensive "cheater"...</div></div>
Not bad, not bad at all...
I've been thinking...I'm considering trying to make an adjustable cradle, like on regular rest....but am unsure how i'll go about it really...
I do know that my bag will be here before I get back from the beach, so I'm going to source a piece of steel tomorrow... I'll probably cut 2 pieces...drill/tap one ONLY and with the other counter sink in a rounded off nut or piece of thicker walled pipe/tube...the run a drill/tap through both to give some additional threaded surface without having to go to a real thick peice of stock..
