so i took the 260 out today to try some new loads. i went pretty well. all loads were shot at 300 yards and the best group measured 1.3

at 43 gr of h4250 i had 7fps deviation

at 43.5 i had 12 fps deviation

the stringing you see is horizonal not vertical. for some reason my camera flips around my pics to what ever way it wants them.

so my next step is loading 5 shots at .1 gr increments then adjust seating depth. for the comp this comming weekend i will probably just load up some @43gr until i get some more load development done, but not bad for the first day with new powder and new brass. (i switched from remington to norma)

all and all it went pretty well since i had 8-18mph wind gusts from 8 oclock

Looks good. That 43gr load is going to be hard to improve on! What bullet were you using?

Re: shooting today 260 (with pics)

142smk

i got it to less than a inch last year with n-150 but my velocity sucked. i am hopping the powder change helps that and it appears it did

Re: shooting today 260 (with pics)

Most .260 bolt gun shooters tend to end up using 142's and H-4350.

Re: shooting today 260 (with pics)

I use a 28" 1:8" L-W BR grade barrel and 43.8/43.9gr of H4350 with the 142SMK. Win .243 or 7-08 brass renecked, and CCI BR-2 primers. Velocity conservatively 2850fps. You can do the numbers, but it's clearly adequate for 1Kyd, and even so in a 24" Savage factory barrel, which shot equally well out there with this load.

That barrel's passed through several hands as the owners tried out the .260, then upgraded to a premium barrel. Wish I still had it.

I have also tried the HDY 95gr V-Max for 200yd comp, over 47.0gr of H-4350 (Hodgdon min charge) with assorted successes and failures. The load needs further development, and there's some issue with my own shooting abilities, too.

Hi Greg, I have been running that 4350 with 142SMK after i talked ( Via e-mail) with you. My gun also seems to love Varget and 107 sierra match kings. Jeff

Re: shooting today 260 (with pics)

Thanks, I will bear that in mind; because the 95's have got me scratchin' my head... Varget makes sense for the lighter weights, I'm guessing loads would be up around 40gr; am I right?.

Re: shooting today 260 (with pics)

40 is what I have tried so far. Ithink I could go higher as the cases look fine. The load is so accurate and I use it only for for varmints that I have not tried anything else. Jeff
