Just thought I would share my new Short Action Customs .284 Win. First let me say that working with Mark has been outstanding and I am a hard person to deal with because I get impatient. Now on to the fun stuff.
My understanding is that the first ever Short Action Customs signature action to leave his shop. Mark put some real thought into what he wanted in his signature action. Some of you may not notice some of the details like the target ejection port, blind rear tang hole, and blind hole on the bolt release as well.
Specs.
Short Action Customs Aplha 11 LA with 30 MOA base
Bartlein MTU 7mm 1-9" finished at 27" from recoil lug
Threaded muzzle
Custom thread protector
Manners Long Action MCS-T5A
Manners Long Action Mini-Chassis
Atlas v8 Lever Bipod
Timney 510U Trigger
Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50 EBR2 Scope
American Rifle Company 35mm M4 rings
Notice the extra effort put into painting the shroud and firing pin assembly offset colors. (Notice the blind rear tang hole)
Mag release and bolts are also offset colors
Same with bolt release. (Notice the blind hole)
I did some load development for it already and during the ladder test at 300 it dumped 3 rounds in a .6 inch group.
After moving to 100 for more dev, it was shooing .6 inch groups with all loads! The load I went with was shooting in the .3-.4's easily without subtracting bullet diameter.
Here is a quick target from the initial load dev session. All groups are 3 shot and each group is a different powder charge. (Thanks Francis for the Calculated group size)
In addition to the .284, I picked up a few other things while I was there.
Components
200 Pieces Lapua Brass
600 180Grain 7mm Berger VLD bullets
8lb 4831SC powder
Redding .284 Type S Match Bushing Full Die Set
Redding Model 2400 Match Precision Case Trimming Lathe
Vortex PST FFP 6-24 mil/mil - For another rifle
American Rifle Company 30mm rings for the PST
Overall I cant thank Mark enough for the work he put into this rifle. It really is a thing of beauty.
Oh and the stock is OD and the barreled action is Patriot Brown.
You have no idea the amount of work Mark put into the custom fitting on the stock to make it look amazing. He really takes it to the next level. Hopefully he will come in here and post some of the stock pictures before and after as well as give more specs on his action.
Sorry for the crappy pics as they were from my cell phone. Ill try and get some better pics later in the week.
