Short action Elk rounds

I have to say, start at 6.5mm and go up, limit your range to distances that dont drop below 1800 fps and 1500'/# of energy. I've killed elk with 6.5 saum, 270win, 300 norma improved, and 338 rum. The two drop dead bang flops were with the 338 and ironically, the 270 win. Shot placement, high shoulder. Any damn gun will work, just use it appropriately, and practice.......a LOT! Bullet selection matters too, most traditional hunters all preach bonded stuff like grand slams, partitions and accubond. I dont shoot animals in the shoulder unless I absolutely have to(only will at distance). Usually I'm far enough away from an elk, a match bullet expands reliably, not over expanding.
