I am going to have a rifle built with a 16.5" barrel. I like running the 155s, but don't think I will have enough tube to get sufficient velocity. However, my max range will probably be 500yds. What twist rate do you think would be optimum and what projectile weight.

I would like to hear from those with firsthand experience.

Many thanks.

+1

I would only consider going faster on the twist rate if you were going to shoot heavy subsonic rounds.

My 17.5" Brux bareel is a 1-11 and shoots 168/175/178's like it's nobody's business. I shoot the heavies, the 155's are velocity dependent pretty much. You could shoot them and they will be very accurate I'm sure, but the heavies will help buck the wind better.

I shoot the Hornady 178 bthp's because it has a better BC then the SMK's and every little bit helps when running a short barrel.

I routinely shoot my gun at 730 yards with no problem even if it's pretty windy.
