I know this has been discussed before but I want your opinions.Hornady manuel seating depth for the 140 Amax is 2.800.I measured this gun 20 times with a Hornady OAL guage with a 140 Amax and it measures 2.707.Thats along way from 2.800 so how do you start load development for this or do you?
Thanks

This is my son's gun and has already been sent back for this once and it came back shorter than it was.If you load one at 2.800 and chamber it you can see land mark's all the way up to the ogive on the bullet which mean's it's probably pinching the end of the case.

I too had a chamber issue with my 12 LRP (non-concentric). You have a few options:

1. Deal with Savage CS.
2. Spend $350 and spin on a Shilen or Criterion large shank pre-fit.
3. Take the Savage factory barrel to a good gunsmith and see if he can elongate the throat for you.

Hands down it SUCKS and in principal I feel Savage should take care of the problem. Unfortunately in my experience, and it appears in yours also, they are not capable of rectifying the situation. Dependent on your budget I would pursue option 3 or my preference is 2. My Shilen barrel is ridiculously accurate.

Mine is at savage now. They teemed the chamber last week, and I haven't heard back since Wednesday. My buddy sent his in a few months ago, and since getting it back he has occasional pressure issues with certain lots of ammo it seems. Mine cracked the bolt face with factory 140 amaxs. FYI, I have measured 2.810, and have had several creedmoors. All my factory ammo (50-75 boxes more or less) measured 2.810 when I have checked it.

I guess I will be on the phone with savage in the morning. My hornady book even says 2.800.The only pressure signs that I am seeing is it is giving up primer pockets fast.IMO this is a unsafe gun to shoot because factory ammo is seated 2.810 and on this gun touching the lands is 2.707,that can create alot of pressure.
