Last two weeks I was designated as Critical Infrastructure and given "papers" to be out and about because I keep multiple sites up and running. Places like State Hygienic Labs, University Hospitals, and County Emergency Communications Centers running as a Field Service Specialist. The last three days I have been at the County Justice Center configuring courtrooms so that the Justice System can conduct their business via video conferencing.

Today I am unemployed. They'll call me back they say...someday. But for right this minute the most important thing is that the CEO and Stockholders keep their multi million dollar salaries so they have trimmed the actual workers to a skeleton staff. They are under contract to have me provide service within 24 hours. They have no one to do my job. So if you call 911 and no one answers....

Who else is straining to help and save America but has been laid off?

    Well come to the club!

I'm out as well... actually furloughed as of last Wednesday, but same difference.

Despite the retail hype, most of the food transportation sector is being decimated right along with the restaurants.

Fucking hate interviewing, but this sector may never be the same so I got one lined up for Friday

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll get a call soon to head back.

I'm working from home on my farm now for my "real" job. I feel very fortunate to have that opportunity. There are a few very small businesses on the farm, so I'm using the time to get those ready to come out of the gates running. I want my part-time peeps get back to work ASAP. No one was relying on my small businesses for their main income, but it's still a bummer to see them lose a part of their incomes. Especially since their other streams have dried up some as well.

I'm also using the time to go nuts with the actual "farm" part. I don't think I'll make any money from it this year, but I can feed as many people as possible if things keep going south. You can never have too much food, especially when the fruit is fermentable :^)

It sucks now, but I hope you're able to find a way to put your new-found free time to good use!

    Best of luck.

I own 50% of an oilfield production chemical company...that we started in January. We have great clients and are hanging on for now (at least until they can't pay their bills anymore), but the wife just got laid off from her marketing director position at a fish company...they sold mainly to cruise lines and have a premium grocery product and no one's buying premium fish right now. We are going to take her on for now but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous...we just don't have a huge war chest right now so we're dependent on collecting receivables in a $20 oil market.

I am still predicting when everything settles, the calculus will show that the cure was worse than the sickness...

I'd like to hear your thoughts on what Rick Perry had to say about the industry dealing with this shit, being your right in the thick of it and exactly who hes talking about.

You didnt ask me and I won’t answer your question directly, but the Operators working now are mainly the ones that have oil hedged at a higher price. Many companies have oil locked in near $60 a bbl and are able to chug along for the time being. The ones that don’t are suffering.

Hey guys trying to do what I can to convince people that at some point we have to get back to work.

See what happens after another month of "quarantine".

Hate to put it this way but if we dont have 100.000 dead than the protocol becomes "At risk people stay at home, everyone else and than some get your ass back to work!"

I know Trump gets a lot of flak for saying shit like "Back by Easter", "It will go away in two weeks", "We will see in May" but he seems to be the only one willing to put a dead line of some performance or measurement criteria while all the other talking heads seem satisfied staying in status quo and never leaving quarantine - of course you will note none of them are missing a pay check either.

    This shit is nuts.

There is another thread on this topic with some inside industry discussion of what is going on.

Its a big story lost in the noise of Covid 19.

Covid 19 will likely be blamed for its outcome but its a pricing war between the Putins and the Saudis that hits us almost like an economic terror attack.

Its one of those things where people are super pleased at $1.50 gas but real people are losing careers in exchange.

I do commercial HVAC service for the largest company on the west coast and our whole company has shut down, maybe the office people are working from home but my van hasn't moved for weeks. My job is basically on hold without pay until further notice.

This is bullshit. I work on mechanical equipment alone on the rooftop.

My wife and I are still at it. Where we are, the biggest employer is a mine. They are talking lay offs.

Sports industry here, so I’ll give you one big guess as to whether I’m working or not lol

I'd like to hear your thoughts on what Rick Perry had to say about the industry dealing with this shit, being your right in the thick of it and exactly who hes talking about.

Haven't listened to the entire interview yet (I intend to) but basically:

    1) fuck Saudi Arabia (I've worked there)
    2) see number 1
    3) as someone else said, right now hedges are holding it together, but they have to be paid by someone in a potentially $5 oil environment, and they eventually expire.
    3) it's going to be the worst downturn since at least mid-80's, probably worse. I'm not entirely sure the current state of the US O&G industry will recover. I'm just hoping we survive long enough to keep picking up market share...so far so good though.

FedEx is moving as much as we can, where we can. Here in Iowa, seed/ag sector in full swing but will slow after a couple more weeks, can foresee some major slowdowns of this shutdown lasts much longer. Wife is RN, so there’s that..

Reefer mechanic, we are running a skeleton crew. Was off mon, today, tom and fri unless we get more work in. Back on monday and playing it day by day

I work for a rental company and they are still going. All overtime cut for now but due to my asthma or whatever the fuck is wrong with my breathing, the shop foreman found out I get two weeks off with pay for being high risk. Will figure out more next week on what the plan is, not sure if I'm going back to work or if they have something else in mind. I'm not sure what to do in my situation.

My dilemma now is do I go back and risk it or do I see about a layoff and try to draw unemployment until they figure out how to control this. I'm worried that jobs might be hard to come by when this gets better. I wouldn't have taken off when I did but the manager came back to work after a spring break vacation in Florida. The next day he called in sick with symptoms so I was advised to go home in case he had it and passed it to someone else at the store.

I've been saying the same thing for a while now. But be careful expressing that thought, even here. We're not supposed to question our learned doctors and scientists. Because they are never wrong, have no biases or agendas, and are basically doing the Lord's work. Of course, most of them are bureaucrats with a guaranteed job. So it's no skin off their backs if they tell us to stay home until next year, just to be extra, super safe.

Electrical power generation here, as of now we are staying away from each other as much as possible while at the facility, and are rotating on and off weeks. There is talk if it gets too bacmd we split up into groups and live ON SiTE for 6 weeks @ a time.

Very sorry this has happened to you. It sounds like you are in communications and/or IT services. As someone outside that industry, it would seem that you would be even more busy with everyone working from home using these technologies. Why is there a decreased demand for your service?

Wife's a nurse and her out patient clinic closed down. But she was able to go to a coronavirus call center and get more hrs and more pay. I'm still mission essential for now. We feel greatful to be in our positions.

Oilfield here. I’m still working, but we’ve never seen anything like what’s coming. The effects of this are going to snowball. I pray this doesn’t last until people run on the banks and drain the market. Imagine the deficits at all levels, those will hit for years. I truly have a hard time envisioning an outcome where this cure isn’t worse than the disease.

I'm a fisherman by trade, fish on a big boat in AK for a few months a year then own my own boat on the west coast.

This has been a disaster. Fished January- mid March in the bearing sea then got home to find out the bottom has fallen out of everything. I should have been fishing black cod and halibut starting as soon as we got home, but both have had emergency closures. Our next fishery is salmon which should start in May, our fingers are crossed that the economy will start moving by then.

Carpenter here. It's deemed essential in my state so still working so far. My worry is what happens when I fulfill our current contracts. I'm booked out about a year but if we crash, I have a feeling 2008 is going to look like nothing. My wife is a psychologist at the state mental hospital. At least her job is fucking locked in.

She set up a treatment program that was the basis of a BBC documentory about nonresidivisom in underage offenders. One of the most successful programs in the world. I'm betting her job is secure. ?

My son has mostly worked in the restaurant business. I'm fearful for the kid. I know things operate on a tight budget with minimal profits. A lot of restaurants are likely not going to reopen. I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you. What area are you in by chance. I have been in this for years I have some good contacts

I'm is Georgia. Was he doing casual or fine dining or upscale casual? Lots of places will close out that were hanging on. But there should be some decent hiring in the places that make it. Be a good time to get a good resume together and maybe bone up of wine and liquor knowledge and points of service. Thins I look at when hiring and training new staff. I hope he finds something

The one thing you can't forget is that when oil is cheap construction booms. As the construction booms oil demand goes up and the prices rise.

I did the Williston boom for a few years. Payed off debt. Then got the hell out before the house of cards fell.

I'll take the cheapest gas I've seen since highschool, as it'll actually help the economy in the long run. The Saudi's and Russia can't keep it up forever as they'll break themselves too.

I'm not so sure there will be a huge depression since it's worldwide. Sure, everything is falling, but it's all relative. If everyone else is crashing with us where are we really going? It'll all end up on a lower level for awhile and work its way back up.

Lineman. If I'm out of work we got some serious fucking issues at hand.

That's why I'm an electrician. Everyone needs to charge their phone and have their lights on.

I'm essential for now. We'll see how it goes. Some people might get great pricing on those shitty remodels no real contractor would touch in the last 5 years.

Head waiter upscale casual. He took a job driving for Papa John's today. His restaurant basically shut down when the state issued distancing rules and didn't tell any of the employees dick. Shut down with zero communication. Honestly As much as he loves restaurants (I don't get it), I'm hoping this is a wake up call to move to a different line of work. He doesn't listen to me though.?

It's the golden handcuffs I worked in restaurants in college up until I graduated. Was in the trucking industry for a long time before I went back to restaurants. But I have always had a part time business also. But if you have experience and are good the money is great. I'm studying programing because I am ready to move on, but I am working my way up to a mid level certification before I even start looking so I won't take a paycut.

I'm retired but my income has taken a big hit. My wife and daughter own a retail business that is closed. My son owns a small brewery and pub; both shut down. Another son does IT for a large private school and he's working from home. Granddaughter is a private school teacher; school closed. My wife's business is more of a hobby, but if this lasts too long, my son's restaurant and brewery could be in trouble. 2020 sucks, so far.

I hope and pray all you guys get back to work and you and your families stay well.

I work at a name brand resort and had to furlough 5 people yesterday, a few who I’ve worked with 10+ years with. Didn’t sleep for the past few nights after word came down from the top. We have a decent amount in the project reserves this year so the initial plan after we got word the resort was closing was to keep the work in house instead of contracting it out. Then last week the calls from upper management went like: cut hours, next call: cut more hours, then: cut two people out of the schedule, by the time I got called into a meeting at the end of the week it was furlough 70% of the crew. Luckily I was able to keep three people on and working.

The company gave all the furloughed employees two weeks of “emergency” pay to help out while the unemployment gets processed and also gave everyone 3 months of extended medical. Two guys on the crew have babies due at the end of June, I was able to keep one of the guys on and I pray the other guys baby comes before his medical runs out. Shitty times.

I work in a war zone. Can’t get there until corporate pulls their head out of their ass and realizes they just need to screen folks before flying us out. Right now, no flights, no work.

I’m looking for insured tree cutters in lee county, ga. Have 7 huge pines and 3 huge live oaks I want removed. Power lines are close so working with the city power will be required.

I’m looking to have two structures demolished and removed In Wilkes county, ga. Must be insured, and dispose of all trash IAW all applicable regulations.

PM me if you are in those areas and looking for work.

I'm a power plant operator and the squaw does book work at our friendly neighborhood prison. We're busier than ever and it's looking very secure going forward. I don't know how many people are going to be financially ruined by this shit but it's going to be a fuck ton. I feel for the honest Americans that are out of work, hopefully they can get by and find something more secure in the future.

I've got some work on my property in western Idaho if a member here needs a short term income. It's very hard work and pays like shit , but it pays cash.

I foresee a lot of "lay offs" but very few people being "fired". Someone is going to make bank on all this BS which just might be your boss.

I haven't see the "jobless" numbers reports but there is a play on words in my mind. Are those jobs "lost"???? I say No, not at the moment.
With the current situation the restaurant industry hasn't crashed......yet. THEN we would see actual "jobless numbers".

We not even able to see anything near the end of this situation. If it stopped spreading tomorrow, the ripple effect will go well into August.

Government civilian so we're working from home. going on the third week of telework. I miss the office but I'm not going to bitch about my "problems" I feel for everyone and anyone who's out of work. I can't imagine and I won't pretend like I understand because I honestly don't. this will end, we just don't know when. God Speed everyone.

My wife works for BBT/Suntrust (Truist) - she's working from home - busier than ever dealing with business relief loans.

I work for a mortar/grout/concrete repair product manufacture. we are definitely really slow but no one laid off yet. One of our main customers is Lowe's and they are steady with all the DIYers stuck at home and wanting to do projects. But we had a lot of big jobsites in NJ/NY that are shut down which in turn means no orders coming in from them.

    Lowe's has been MOBBED lately.

of course you will note none of them are missing a pay check either.

Thats been a big gripe about this whole thing. All these people screaming that you need to stay home and not go out are either: politicians, celebrities, or stay at home mom/wife. None of whom really have a worry about a job or money.

Im not currently worried about my job, but if this shit isnt over by June/July or so, I know my company is going to be taking a SERIOUS look at things. As is we are cutting 30-40% of our schedule and attempting to maintain full staff and full salaries. The prediction is my industry will take 18-24 months to come back from this and it might take 36-48 months before we are back full bore.

Yeah...I'm laid off. I have retained my company laptop and credentials and still have access to my email and Teams account. Supposedly there is a program in place to supplement our unemployment insurance and add another $600 per week of benefits for up to 4 months *but* applying for it seems to be nebulous right now as I file for State benefits. Carrying my health insurance on COBRA will be like $800 a month....luckily my Wife is still employed from home *but* she is waiting on a hip replacement surgery that has been postponed indefinitely.

Our company was poised to have it's best year ever with record sales and work to be performed this Summer and all of it has been postponed and pushed back due to layoffs and disturbances in the supply chain. We literally can't get stuff to install because the suppliers have laid off everyone and sent them home.

My personal savings investments have been devastated and I'm 64 and was looking at retirement between 65 - 70. Likely I'll have to work until I die to recover from this financially but I do have almost $250K in cash that I might be able to ride the Market back if we get stabilized.

Hard to be confident right now. Too much confusion and the worst yet to come. I guess I have plenty of time for precision shooting now....400 rounds of hand loaded 6.5CM and enough powder and bullets/primers to make a couple thousand more so....Hang tough everybody and my best to you and yours!

^^^ This is the most logical balanced statement Ive read.

Are things fucked up? Yes, of course, but its WORLDWIDE. Picture it on a sliding scale and everything just slides down a few notches, but the slide is for everyone, not just us.

Locally all the restaurants are closed or doing take out only but other than that things are 'reasonably' normal, what ever that is. I live out in one of the counties so the impact, medically, seems minor. Just practice 'distancing' and wash your hands. I wear gloves, carry a spray bottle filled with alcohol, and spray my hands after every stop.

I suppose Im lucky, I drive part time for a courier co. and while many deliveries are down, Ive been getting a lot of emergency medical supply deliveries. With gas now at $1.33 at Sam's it makes it pretty tolerable.

Ya'll keep the faith. We're AMERICANS. We'll get through this and come out stronger for it. Murica, fucking A.

Fuck the Saudi's, fuck the Ruskies, and fuck the Chinks. Their gub'mints anyway since the people, just like us, are just people trying to get by.

    Go Trump!
