I'm sure you are already thinking, "oh no, not another which one is better"? I'm in the market for a 9mm and have narrowed my choices to these. Just interested in hearing pros and cons from the guys that own them.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

After working with both for a good while I have to give it to the Sig all the way.

in fact I may even sell off my P30L & P30 as they are just not up to it in my opinion. Not overly impressed at all.

The Sigs are just stellar workhorses

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I have seen the HK's turn to crap after 30K factory rounds by academy students. The SIG is very durable, but a bit large for a 9mm if you don't intended to use it as a duty pistol.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

Used a pair of 226s for SWAT work for 13 years. I've lost count of how many tens of thousands of rounds went through each, alot of it was duty +P too.

The 226 might not be the newest design, but there is nothing a duty pistol needs to do that the 226 won't do well, often extremely well.

And BTW, that includes casual concealment. In fact, the 226 is about the same size as its contemporary's "compacts" such as the 92FC. Carried the slightly smaller 228 concealed, every day, for the last 11 of those 13 "Sig years" and honestly there wasn't much practical difference in one of my Horseshoe Leather Belt Slides.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

Forced to choose, I'd avoid HK every time. The P226 is probably my favorite double action pistol (although I hate double action). So my nod is for the P226.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

When it comes to my defence weapon I lean to the side of comfort. SIG,s dont fit me. But my P30 does. YES I only put 2-3 hundred rounds a mounth through it so it will be a long time before it fails me.I've tried a lot of pistols over the years and other than a 1911 I like the P30 the best so far. Right now its at ADCO being threaded for the Ti. Abraxas I just got for it.So now I'm carring my wife's P30. Cant wait to try the Abraxas on my .22s and AR 5.7 Pistol to see how well it works as a muti. can.

You just had to go and throw the only oddball response in there didn't you?

I hear you on the comfort, fortunately the Sig fits me better than any handgun, so it makes the most sense to me at this time. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I had a Sig Mosquito and after 4-5k rounds suppressed the front of the slide cracked and ripped off. That left me w/ a bad outlook on their product.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I prefer the P30. I haven't put 30k plus rounds through either of mine but have been extremely happy with them all except for one bad mag spring which HK promptly replaced with a new magazine no questions asked.

HK customer service sucks but there repair department has always been top notch. When I had LEM trigger conversions done on some of my HK45 variants I was extremely happy with the service.

I'd go with whichever one I felt more comfortable shooting. If you have access to them, spend some time putting rounds through each and see which you are more comfortable with.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

My P226 9mm has been flawless for over 20yrs. So much so that that 3yrs ago I bought another one just because.

I have several other pistols but my 226 is my 24hr go to.

The Navy guys with web feet like them too!

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I have owned a 226 in 9 w dak trigger and it was a great weapon.Ive never owned/shot a p30 so no comment there, but i do have a hk usp full size in 45 and think it is the mutt's nutz, it shoots great with no hiccups!

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I love my P30. I don't think I'd trade anything for it. I haven't had it as long as I've had my G17, and I've had more time with the glock, so it is my go to gun right now. The other thing holding the P30 back is not being able to get mags for them.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

IMO the 226 is the best feeling and and overall best handgun out there. I would take the 2022 over the P30,but thats just me.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

It boiled down to these same two for me, as well... I ended up sticking with the Sig (as has the general concensus). I've had my P228 as my daily carry for 20 years and it will never leave my possession.

Sig - all the way...

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

Haven't owned/shot a P30 but I can't imagine it being so much better than my 226 that I would trade it. 226 is a great piece and has never even sounded like it was going to get fussy. I've also fired a large variety of rounds through it due to the changing economical climate and haven't found anything she wont eat.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

Other than the HK45 which I like very much , I would say the Sig P226 and P229's are the way to go. Even though you want a 9mm, you might want to consider the P226 or P229 in .40 or 357 Sig. All you would need then to get to a 9mm is to pick up a conversion barrel and some mags and you have multiple caliber capability. You can't however go from a 9mm to a .40 or .357 due some internal differences in construction with the Sigs.

Re: Sig P226 or H&K P30L

I have both, several 226's and the little woman has the P30. I love the fact that the sigs are easy to work on, where the HK's are a pain, and the customer service sucks. Good thing my P30 will only see a minimum of rounds. Just my .02.
