I am looking to get a new scope and wondering what's the consensus on the Sightron III LR 6-24x50mm? I already know I love the Bushnell... own 2. Is there any benefit in spending the extra $200 on the Sightron?

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

The Sightron will have more elevation adjustment. I have a 8-32x SIII and a friend of mine has a 6-24x 4200. We both shoot 308s in F-Class and he needed a 20 MOA base to get to 600 yards where I did not.

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

I sold 2 Bushnell 4200s and bought a sIII6-24. Absolutley a step up. Glass is as good as my NF. Tracking is right on. I plan on buying a couple more. Is it a battle scope like the NF or USO? NO. but at the bench it is very capable.

+1 for Scott and any SIII scope. Great glass for the money, you won’t be disappointed.

That is what I did a couple of months ago. Very happy with the choice. IMHO, Sightron is better glass. And yes, I do also have a 6-24 4200 to compare with.

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

I see that Scott and LO come very highly recommended. I am curious what this comes from. They are actually more expensive than MidwayUSA (not by much). I am not trying to bash at all... just curious. I see that Scott has posted here on the thread, so that is a plus (because Larry Potterfield does not). But right now, funds are at a premium for me, and when a less known site is over $150 cheaper, it gets me thinking. Good or bad? What do I get for my $150 if I go with Scott and LO?

Liberty Optics = $808.78
BigSupplyShop.com = $664.77

$144.01 difference... that's a set of Badger rings.

Scott, do you offer a mil discount?

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

I'd talk to Scott personally. He will let you know the final price.

For me - he's been more than fair on trades, fast shipping, great prices, answered my emails and phone calls, and excellent Cust. service........ Pretty sure Midway will not accommodate you as quickly or as well as Scott, or those listed below.

I do use Midway at times, but I don't care to send he or his kids on all those rare hunts around the world. I'd rather keep Scott LO, Mike CST, or Donnie GRT, or Doug Cmraland in business. Just my opinion.

They've done more for the shooters on Frank's Sniper'sHide than Midway will ever do. Their fee's to be a vendor pay for the cost of running the Hide, providing we shooters a lot of products and support. I am pretty sure that Frank isn't willing to use his money to cover the expenses of web maint. for my dumb ars usage.

Sgt_Jamez,
I know the price difference may pose second thoughts, but great customer service is worth it.
I have asked Scott many questions on scope selections etc. He likes to share his knowledge with others. Good customer service is hard to come buy these days. I would buy from Scott even at the higher price.

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

I haven't had the pleasure of playing with one of the SIII's yet, but I do have a 4200 6-24x50. Though the elevation adjustment is lacking, the scope has still worked pretty well for me over the past two years. Glass is decent, I like the knobs, and it tracks quite well.

That said, Scott is well on the way to talking me into putting an SIII on top of my new Rob Snyder build that's in the works. It's either that or a higher-end fixed power at this point...

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

Sgt_Jamez, Shoot Scott a PM or just give him a call. I've made several orders from him and have never had anything but excellent service. And even if you don't buy the optic from him you're no worse off for talking about it with a real good guy.

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

I would go with the S3 as well if your comparing to the Bushnell 6-24x50 SFP mil/moa scope. But its not a fair comparision to the Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 FFP Mil/Mil scope. That latter bushnell scope is first focal plane vs. second focal plane on S3. As well the latter bushnell has matching reticle and knobs while the S3 has mil reticle and MOA adjustments. In my opinion that Bushnell FFP puts it ahead of the S3 based on features alone.

You do realize that Midway is a site sponsor, started the NRA Roundup, and Friends of the NRA. The NRA round-up is now an endowment that is worth $7.9 million. I wouldn't bash a site sponor that has given more money back to the industry than anyone else.

Re: Sightron III Long Range vs Bushnell Elite 4200?

OK folks,

The partial answer to at least one of these questions is a thing called MAP and whiny, snitchy competing dealers.

Sgt Jamez,

we had these at a lower price but other dealer complaints forced me to change that. What you see is the MAP price.

The price you see at "BigSupplyShop" is a sick price, but I assure you as a Sightron Master Distributor it is not a sustainable price....we'll be here for the long haul.

As for the NRA round-up deal, this is not money out of Midway's pocket, it's money all the customers have paid upon order checkout, they just forward it to the NRA. Still a good thing, but let's not credit them for nearly $8 million in donations when the money has come from the buyer's pockets.

Also, it's the NRA, not a real principled gun rights org like JPFO, MSSA or anything like that, so let's not get too excited...

And yes, we've always offered a mil discount, always have, always will!

Scott
