I am trying to convince the Democrats in Olympia to pass bill 1604 and allow silencer use in Washington State. I made a video that might convince some of those kooks that silencers are in fact not illegal to possess in the United States.

Re: Silencer footage

never understood the law on cans in WA ...u can own it but not use it! wtf

Re: Silencer footage

I'll never understand why I can not find more than four people in the entire state of Washington that are willing to help out on this project at all.

I asked for assistance on other forums with copying and mailing out DVD to Olympia, two people stepped forward. When I was trying to find people who would meet with various Representatives, with or without me, I got two offers, and one of those was an Australian. The meetings were somewhat productive, but it will take many more of them to ensure this bill gets out of committee.

When I asked for mpeg footage for my video, there were no offers. I can only leave the state to shoot suppressed a few times a year, so additional footage would have helped me put this together months ago.

I have only met one actual silencer owner in Washington, and three others who intended to own them someday. I have met many guns owners in WA who think promoting silencer use is bad for the state or think they are illegal. Not all of them are Fudds, some of them are "black rifle" owners.

Re: Silencer footage

people think silencers are illegal anywhere ya go. Every time I go to the range I get the same question. Isn't that illegal?

I run into the same thing... is that thing legal?

Re: Silencer footage

I couldnt take more than about 30 seconds of either vid ....

Your voice is almost robotic sounding and very monotone and that just drives me insane personally.

You are not the first to point out the obvious here. But it was the best I could do. I am not an actor or voice-over artist of any kind. I speak into the camera or microphone for the voice-overs while reading from a screen positioned next to the camera. Each "scene" took several attempts to get through without hesitating or stuttering.

Several people have suggested that I use a professional service to make the video, but I can not afford it, nor can I afford the services of a voice-over artist. No one with a decent voice has offered to help either. On the other hand I do not want a slick professional production either; I want it to look homemade.

I budgeted only a few thousand bucks to amend RCW 9.41.250, and most of that is for airline tickets to fly to a gun friendly state that allows silencer use so I could shoot the footage. I had hoped to obtain mpeg footage of silencer use, but no one offered for over a year.

Most of the rest of the budget is being spent on DVD-R’s (150 of them) and postage. I am mailing 147 copies of the DVD to those in Olympia and writing to each county sheriff for data on silencer crime.

I also wanted it to make silencer ownership seem boring and routine, which it actually is. A few people have told me that this video will not convince anyone to buy a silencer, but I did not make it for that reason. It is made especially for politicians, to educate them about silencers.

Both links work for me right now.

Re: Silencer footage

Step one: stop calling them "silencers."

The first few videos didn't work so I didn't try the others so you may have already pointed this out but Ireland requires suppressors for hunting to protect hearing and noise abatement. Of course we shouldn't use international law as a yard stick. But it's a thought.

Re: Silencer footage

I call them suppressors in the video, except to mention that they are referred to as silencers or mufflers in the US Code and were marketed by Maxim since 1905 as silencers.

When I had a meeting with my local state Representative and told her I was there to discuss the suppressor use bill, she asked "Do you mean silencers?" Everyone knows that a silencer is a muffler, but a suppressor can mean one of three different devices to reduce flash recoil or noise. Saying silencer is just so much easier. But I use the word suppressor in the video.

Ranb, glad to see someone out there trying to expand your freedoms, but as you quoted, convincing kooks is hard to do... GOOD LUCK hope you get it done!!!

Re: Silencer footage

Ranb, I think the video is good for its intended purpose. Hopefully someone in WA will listen to reason.

Re: Silencer footage

Your videos may not be exciting, but they definitely get the point across. It's nice to see someone put there money where their mouth is. Good luck!
