Skull Bolt Knob- Flat Black Paint Comp. (Pics)

Okay. I spent a few hours today painting the skull flat black. I have not yet decided whether or not I will do the wicker white accents with a tiny paint brush. (Eye sockets, teeth, nose).

What do you all think? Tiny white accents, or leave it all flat black?

Btw: I know some people won't like it, but no one can argue that it is unique. As far as I know, it is the only one in existence.

I applaud your DIY approach to doing something unique, but I guess the whole "form following function" thing really went out the window on this one.
Sorry, guns, cars, motorcycles... whatever... this stuff sort of drives me nuts. This is coming from a guy who took all the cheesy chromed bits the previous owner put on my RC51, bead blasted them and duracoated them flat black or gunmetal grey.
That knob looks like you need one of those twin bladed fantasy dragon daggers from the Bud K catalog to go with it. Do yourself a favor and get one of those cheap hobby store airbrush/compressor setups and some Duracoat if you're going to do stuff like this... at least then you will have a quality finish on it.
Keep up the customizing, but stick with: 1) function, 2) function and 3) finish.

It is completely functional. Fits in my hand much better than the stock knob, and feels great. It could be better quality, but I think it looks pretty nice.

That is what is great about guns, cars, motorcycles... and especially women.

As for your Honda RC51, we certainly have different taste in motorcycles. Here is my 2009 Harley Night Train. 96 cu. in Engine, 200 rear tire, V&H Big Radius Exhaust, Full intake, smoked out lenses, custom seat, custom windshield, and more.

Of course.. I am sure you love the sound of your Honda revving up. That is your taste, and it certainly doesn't sounds like my bike revving up.

Actually you'd be surprised. My bike is a 1000cc vtwin, although it is gear driven (no chains) vs your pushrods. It has quite a thump and people often say my bike has more of an "american muscle" sound although its not as lumpy as the harleys unique firing order. We restore 65-70 shelby mustangs and are a Shelby CSX Cobra dealer, so I am around american muscle every day. I get what you are saying about different strokes and all, and I'm not trying to put down your bike... I'm just saying my RC51 isnt the typical squealing pig sportbike. My dad thinks it sounds better then his harley. I have all the midrange in the world, it pulls strong to redline and I shift out of first at 70+. But then again, my fiancee can barely ride on the back and she's tiny.
Waaay OT.... lets bring it back.
If your going to mess with painting guns, I cant stress enough that you get access to a bead blaster and get setup to spray duracoat.....it is well worth it!

I am not planning on painting guns. However, I wonder how much it would cost to have the skull painted with duracoat? I could always strip it down, and have it redone. I might do that after wear and tear works the finish of the paint off the skull.

How much does this duracoat system you mention cost?

The only thing that matters is if you like it...

Look at the bright side, if you decide you want to go back to a regular bolt knob, you can always weld the skull onto your scooter somewhere.

I certainly do like it. It was driving me nuts for the day that it was chrome. Flat black works. I had the bolt handle, and the skull threaded by a machinist, so I can simply pull off the skull if I need to and thread on a different knob. However, I like it. And surprisingly it has a great feel, better than the stock knob. (Probably because it is slightly larger.)

keep it. you were the first, but it wont be the last. why not some personality -vs- a blob of steel? cant see where it draws any negatives except in the opinion area. its all about getting a little head anyway.

most skulls are too big to use
