Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Glad to see the usual crowd gathering for the lead slingin good times!! It will be nicer this time around, as it is starting to warm up here on the Western Slope... I won't have to listen to everyone complaining about being "cold" while waiting for their turn to shoot!!

I love having my family and friends shooting with me... but most all of them seem to be "fair weather" shooters!! LOL!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Count me in...and i guess i will actually count the wife in, if she can acutally shoot well this time

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Don't have to worry if she shoots well, just get her out shootin them Smiley's... That is all that matters!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

hell z71, she shoots all the time with me. funny thing is with my 10/22, she was shooting under .5inch at 100 yards with wind. i was impressed...till she got on the snow flakes...i got done with my targets, and looked over with my scope at her targets and looked like somebody shot a shotgun at them
smile.gif
we both got a laugh out of it.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Fixed mine today to send out in the morning. Hope I don't finish dead last again.

At least when your at the bottom then is only one way to go from there.

Thanks Jason for taking the time to do this.

OH WOW!! .5 with a 10/22 @ 50 yards would have been impressive enough WITHOUT the wind!! You can tell her that shooting like that is impressive, regardless the level of experience.

I am glad she shoots with you. I really would like to see more of us getting the whole family involved. If we don't keep the crowd growing, we will die out... period. Keep up the good work!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Aiighty JB. Funds inbound for 6 Centerfires and 6 Rimfires. My in-laws have left to go back to Texas, so they are sitting this round out. Hopefully, they will be back again soon!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Can't wait. Got a new toy to shoot paper with. Remmy shows promise of being a good shooter. Now just hope I can out shoot my dad now that he has my savage FCP-HS. Will see.

Bring on the learnin edjumacation!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Well, I am battling the scope woes... and I am not going to shoot my 10PC this time around, unless some miracle happens and a PST decides to sit on it.

I did however get my dad's Marlin M25 bolt action .22lr while I was in Texas. I refuse to drag the Mossberg out of the closet to do ANYTHING with, other than throw it in the dirt for good measure.

My buddy Vince will be shooting with us again, so I will still get to heat up the 10FPLE!! I also got a reloader from my buddy Neal while down South!! We are going to be doing some recipe cooking, so hopefully the 10FPLE will be a laser!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Just snagged a good deal on an LNIB Super Sniper. This will be my holdover scope until I can get the funds for the PST. I am sure that I will be getting the remaining parts to finish off the 10PC. We will be there one way or the other...

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Put a check in the mail today for 8 targets. Getting my wife and two of my girls in this time. Figured it would be a good way to get them behind the trigger and see how they like it. Bought 1 target each for each one of them and for myself. Also sent for a buddy again at the same time.

Drew for a prize in the last one and I thank you for that. Hopefully this time I can shoot a little better. Looking forward to getting the targets and seeing if any of us can hit anything!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

JB, I would like to see about adding something into the prize list for the Savage shooters of the bunch. Is that possible since I don't have a website or anything??

Just let me know... Thanks!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

DK,

Sure, let me know.

Good luck all...new gun coming Friday, then off to ASC with it and hopefully be able to smack some smilies when I return!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Man, it sure felt good to get behind the rig today. We got a few of the Smiley's shot, but mostly just had some fun. We were in a bit of a rush too, as the rain was doing what it could to "dampen" our spirits.

Finally got the 10PC out and heated it up a bit. She shoots OK, but not like my old 10FPLE. It is just wrong to miss a rifle that much, but I do. I really need to get some loads worked up for the 10PC and put her through the paces. Hopefully I will get the Manners stock put oh her soon.

The Marlin 25 didn't fair as well as I had hoped it would. She needs some more work to get things clickin right. It did much better than the Mossbergs did, which is why it is RETIRED!!

I hope you guys are gettin with it and shooting the lights out!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Boy, what a day. Lessons are hard learned on the line.

My 308 took a dump. I don't know if it was: the rifle, the crooked bases (found that out this morning), or the scope. Pulled the scope and put it on a trusty rifle and still is not holding zero. Really puzzles me (well, it really pisses me off, but that is just me).

Took out the 300wm because it shoots lights out all the time. Pulled one shot and found out that my bipod worked loose. Three more rounds and it was loose again. CRAP. Blew the 3 round group and my "confidence" shot. Oh well. Maybe I can get out again before the end of the match.

Savage MKII TR usually shoots awesome, but this time not so much. Ammo is my likely suspect. Time to pony up some dough for match eley or wolf match.

You live, you learn. At least I will remember the bipod thing during hunting season when it REALLY counts.

When someone finds my a$$, please hand it back to me.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

You know we all have challenging, humbling days. Mine was yesterday. My RWS .308 was shooting like a champ, but I kept throwing out fliers. So frustrating... This isn't going to be among my better STS entries I'm afraid. For centerfire OR rimfire...

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Smiley's back to you.

I definitely need to shoot my 22lr more often! You know it’s bad when you watch the bullet during flight and know before it hits, ya screwed up! Cold bore sucked!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Finally shot my targets today... I waited until the last minute as I was hoping to have my new 6.5 Creedmoor in time to shoot the match with but it didn't work out this time.

My performance wasn't good by any standards, but it's the best I've done so far at STS. That goes for both rimfire and centerfire. I guess as long as I'm improving I should be happy.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Got out and shot yesterday afternoon. Time was kinda tight in between times of sunshine and rain. Haven't been able to find our previous targets, which is a good thing.

My buddy Kevin gave me some home grown 175gr rounds to try in the 10PC. As much as I hate to admit it, it seems to really like the 175ers. The reason I hate it is, I have 500 rounds of 155gr SMKs that I was going to be loading up and trying out.

Oh well, the wife and kiddos all shot rather well this time out. And we even had a great time with some Winchester .22lr ammo. The Marlin DOES NOT LIKE FEDERAL!! There are some really impressive 3-shot groups in this bunch. I think I even got a double hit on the 40/50 like my buddy Carter does with ease!!

The scores are going to be playing up nicely this time around!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Scores sheets away.
Humbled, very humbled.

22 did not do so hot this time around. Think I need to take it all down and put it all together one piece at a time.

Savage LRH 300, well, that is another thing altogether. It did well, but it is a hunting rifle. Scope issues on the 308 prevented me doing anything with it.

Next match I am hoping to do a bit better.

Wally

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Hopefully it will be a bit dryer next time around...

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Man, I got a real pretty target in for 22. Not my highest score, but probably my prettiest one. All of the hits were solid. On centerfire, I had issues, probably with the scope. I didn't even finish shooting a target. That sucks. No CF agg for me this year.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Carter Mayfield</div><div class="ubbcode-body">No CF agg for me this year. </div></div>

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Hey, I don't "rule the roost," not even in RF. CF, I just want to be a contender.

What interests me about CF is how volatile the scores are. 100 yards with a CF is a lot tougher than 50 yards with a RF... and the top scores show it.

And no, I don't think I will ever top your score;-) Nor do I think I will ever match my top score. That was just a lucky wipeout combined with a pretty good group. The stars were just aligned for me on the target.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SPRING 2011 - ENTRY OPEN

Shot a CF target but didn't send it in, wasn't worth it. Terrible!!! Did send in a RM target, not great but pretty good. Bought one of the Savage MK II's from Dick's Sporting Goods for this one. Thing shoots real good, even with the bulk Remington ammo from Wally World.

Got targets for my wife and one of my daughters as well. They shot the RF target with the Mk II, first time ever shooting it, and damn near beat me. And to add, my daughter is 12 and neither have hardly shot. They did real well so I will be getting more targets for them to shoot next time.

Hey man, it was meant as nothing but a compliment. Just know this, I have ALOT of respect for your shooting skills, as well as everyone else here. Like I have stated so many times before, you guys are some of the most consistant shooters that I have ever had the honor to shoot with. This competition humbles me every time I take a target out of the envelope.

To me, you are far more than just a "contender". You are a fantastic shot, and are a good human being to boot. That is a rare combination, and it is to be commended. I might give you a little bit of crap here, but it is purely out of respect. So to me, you are "Da Man" where it comes to rimfires. My rimfires are almost silly compared to so many others here. I am just tickled as I can be to find that my Dad's Marlin likes Winchester!! So I am good with that... but I am going to keep working on it. I will ALWAYS continue to work on it, just because I love this stuff so much. This shooting these little smart ass Smileys is what helps keep me off the shrinks couch.

I haven't been close to my old score either... and don't even have the rifle or ammo that made it happen. And yes, the stars and planets and wind and sun and everything else you can think of was aligned properly. Will it ever happen again?? Who knows. But that is what keeps me coming back for more... and more... and more. Keep shooting Brother... for your own good!! SEND IT!!
