Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

For now, it will have to be by check when I get back to Colorado. My account got hacked, and it is still locked pending the full investigation bull. Oh well, just another day...

And again, thanks to you JB for doing what you do for us to be able to do what we do!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I should be shooting CF this time around. I found the accuracy issue. It was the rear screw on the front base was only tightened to 10 in-lbs. That was just enough to open up my groups by about 1/3"... a frustrating amount because it is small enough that it could have just been me, but large enough to make a successful outing at STS nearly impossible.

I hope we get a reprieve from the wind in Texas. It has been non-stop here. Some rain would be nice, too.

Thanks for putting this on!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

It was raining nicely in Denver when left. Texas on the other hand... I am not used to this heat anymore... I am miserable!!

Congrats on finding the possible accuracy issue!! I am seriously hoping that I get my new 5-20SS scope in for this match. If not though, I will still be doing my best to punch the lights out!! I have my new loader and will be trying to cook up a nice grouping from the 155's that I have. We will see what happens.

Once I get my 5-20SS on my 10PC, I will be swapping the 16XSS over to the Marlin25. More magnification will possibly help tighten things up a bit, especially since I founds some ammo that it really likes!! I can always hope anyways!!

I am definately digging the .22lr @ 50yards vs. the .308 @ 100. Definately a challenge, but alot easier on the wallet and shoulder!! LOL!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Just sent in payment for the Summer 2011 contest.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Just fixed the envelope with my payment for the Summer 2011 match.

Man I hope I do better on this one. Really getting tired of sitting in last place. Been there the past 2 times. LOL Maybe 3rd time is the charm and I will get the rifle lined out and ready to go.

Thanks Jason for putting this on.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Well, you didn't end up with a "ZERO" score like I did. Look at it this way... nowhere to go but UP!! Keep shooting!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Alright guys, I am going to try and film me shooting a target, might be cool to see something from start to finish!!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Jake,

THat would be pretty cool

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Scoring question.

So if you touch the circle then you get the points listed under that circle. If you're inside clean, then it's the score for that circle and +5. If you're inside clean and touch the smiley it's another 5 points, correct?

The confidence shot has the potential double any score or just the initial score for that target?

Then the 3 shot groupd (which I understand).

Thanks

Paul

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

This is from the scoring section of the Smiley page... hope this helps.

DK

SCORING:

The points below reflect the value for a hit (breaking the circle) -

approximate size----: Point Value
2"------------------------5
1.3"---------------------10
1.1"---------------------15 (CBS)
0.5" ---------------------25
0.4" ---------------------30
smily = 1/4"-------------40 (50 for a wipeout* )

***There is a 5-point bonus if the bullet is completely inside the white inner circle (or for a center wipeout* on the smaller circles)

***Also an added bonus for hitting the other strategically placed smilies.

*** 3-SHOT GROUP SCORING

Groups over 1-inch will not affect your score at all.

Your group size will be subtracted from 1" and multiplied by 100 to give you the value added to your score

EXAMPLE:
Group = 0.750"
Difference from 1" = 0.250"
0.250 x 100 = 25
So a 0.5" group would add 50pts, 0.25" group would add 75pts etc.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

320 is the top score, though I've noticed that I haven't seen dead-centered 25 point targets get scored +5 lately, so it is more like 315. The 30 point target is impossible to dead center as far as I know. I believe the white is smaller than .224".

The highest ever CF is 270. The highest ever RF is 288.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Improving your shooting is just one great benefit of this challenge. As a bonus, there is an awesome lineup of great prizes, all designed to help build yourself an incredible rifle!!

Paul,

You have it figured out.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

on the 25-30 poniters, the 5pt bonus is good if you wipe-out the center, or keep it all in the white.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Sent money off for targets today. Got targets for the wife and kids again. Hopefully I can shoot a little better this time and not get beat by my 12 year old daughter again! CLaw is her name, 12 yrs old and shot the Savage for the first time when she shot her target and got 10th place I believe! Hope she does as well this time also...hope we all do well. My wife MLaw done pretty well for her first time behind the rifle also.

Can't wait to get them out shooting again. Thanks for doing this...gives us another reason to get out together and do something, plus maybe win a prize!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

to make sure i understand it - the targets ship on the 11th correct? I paid a few weeks ago but looks like they all ship together?

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Doubled,

You are correct, no targets go out till next week.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I sent my money today...please oh please tell me I can still compete this go round. Lots of issues on my end, just want to shoot and support.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Funds sent for three of each. Hopefully this time around I can improve on last time's terrible performance...

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

ogre,

you guys are good. Still have a few days left to enter for the Summer match (enter till Aug 1)

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Finally got the PayPal bull handled... funds are inbound!! Thanks!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Alright guys, I shot some targets with my family yesterday and I saved one for myself today. The weather was 50 degrees and just a slight breeze. Maybe 2-3 MPH.

Here is also a picture of my target.

Enjoy the Video, I am sorry for the poor quality, and I could not zoom for some reason. But all in all I think it turned out pretty good.

This is a really good target and should score some good points. I really only missed the 50 point smiley, got the 40 on it though!!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

GRRRRRR, sadly it looks like I won't be submitting anything this time around. My stupid roommate accidentally threw the envelope with the targets in it out with the trash

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I think I would be throwing the roommate out as well... just sayin.

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Looks like I missed the deadline. I think I'll give this a try for the Fall match. I may have my 6.5 Creedmoor by then. If not I'll use the .204R, .22-250 or the 7mm-08. Hmmmmmm... choices.

I'll probably do the rimfire SMS too. I generally only shoot offhand with the Annie, but she's not too uppity to get down in the dirt!
eek.gif

Looks like fun!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Fun indeed!! Sorry you missed it this time around.

SMS - Funny name... serious competition!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

We shot our targets last weekend, unfortunately it was 111 degrees here in DFW and aside from my 3 shot group, my targets probably aren't even worth sending back =) Guess I'll put them in the mail next week so you guys can at least have someone to laugh at!

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Just you wait wtopace, I have yet to shoot mine. Just recovering from a major accident, recoil currently sucks, and I have had to install a muzzle break on my 308. That, and I am just NOW finishing my 10/22. Wanna see some scores to laugh at, see mine. Winning is winning, even if you beat a crippled up crispy critter (well, no longer crippled, back to full active duty! But I still caught myself on fire...that sucked)

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Gentlemen, you have no need to worry about your scores. My crew and I have set the standard for the lowest scores running. It was truly a miserable outting, and NOBODY could hit anything to speak of.

We had multiple issues with scopes, rings, and failure to fires. It was probably the single worst day of shooting for all of us. I will be posting my lowest centerfire score since I began shooting this competition. Bottom of the list beware, we have it wrapped up nice and tight.

NOTE: Military surplus ammunition is NOT match grade stuff!!

DK

p.s. - lottery tickets "ONLY" will be in the mail today.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

DK thats funny, you can count only one of the targets me and my crew sent in for a decent score!!!

It was the one on the vdeo above, other than that I saw lots of misses, I was constantly calling high left, low right, right 1 inch!!! Things like that.

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Clint, who is one of my technicians, has a hopped up 10/22 with a special barrel, special stock, special bolt, special trigger... might as well not even call it a Ruger.

His first 3 shots on a practice target to double check zero, were all touching in a major way. After those 3 beautiful awe inspiring shots... he shot a score of about 85 I believe.

I got up, and nothing... I mean NOTHING was in danger of getting hit. I finally changed out ammo to my Winchesters, and I finally started gettin some hits... but not on the Smiley target. Like I said... we all sent in lottery tickets.

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Talk about the lightning round, LOL. I was out in the field trying to squeeze two targets in before the storm hit. There was lightning hitting all around and the winds were gusting. I beat the rains by about 2 minutes, what a hoot

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

SWWEEEEETTTTTT!!

Sounds like an electrically charged good time!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Hard to believe I actually managed a .111" CTC with the 17HMR with all that going on. Now if I could just put them where I aim and not blow the rest of the target

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I feel your pain Brother!! I feeeeel your pain...

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Congrats on the +.1" CTC too. Very nice shooting!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I am now working on a Ruger 10/22 Target to compete with. I am hoping with all hopes that I will be able to actually "compete" with the sharper shooters in the Rimfire side of things.

Clint's hotrod 10/22 has me really wanting one again. I wish now that I had never sold my other one...

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

DK I have a 10/22 target and it's a hammer. Custom barrel and custom stock. Well it has a trigger too!!! Still a ruger but barely???

Jake
