From the sound of it, he had the job of clearing the fields for the American pickings, metaphorically speaking. Wherever those fields happened to be. And, he did that job well.

^^^Yes, form what Ive read he did his job quite well. The he realized that the job(s) he had been sent to do were about Benjamin and not principle. As a man of principle he had to speak the truth as he saw it.
The truth is hard for many of todays tit suckers to understand when 'Money" is the be all. Easy for them to spend an send others to do their bidding so they can have their starbutts coffee. Some of us went in thinking we were doing the right thing, only to find out later the only right thing we were doing was protecting the ones you were with. Then when you rotated, you felt guilty knowing the FNG's were not up to speed yet, an it was your fault. Ain't life grand being stupid,... It took me to 19 years of age to understand some on your own "side" needed shot before most people who did not look/act like us.
There are still plenty of brave US servicemembers with similar principles and character, but PC and suicidal ROE bullshit sometimes keep them neutered.
