Did a seating depth test with 107 SMK's in a 260 Rem. Went from jammed 0.010" to 0.090" jump in steps of 0.010". Had the best 5 rnd groups (round robin) at 0.020" and 0.080" jump.
I don't think you can make a blanket statement about the amount of "jump". It's a lot more complicated. Like OFG, I ran several 175 SMKs at 0.005 differences and found that in my stock R700, they worked best when seated to 2.224 to the ogive (0.300 datum). In my rifle (with over 3K down the tube) the "jump" for this is over 0.120. This was a "picky" setting as only 0.003 each way from this reference would start to open up the groups.
