Re: Sniper sues Army over error which put him in dange
I think that is really sad that this happened to him. This soldier served his country, is obviously very good at his job, and has probably saved many lives in doing what he does.
He deserves far better than he got. He and his family.
Reguardless of the outcome, he and his family can never go back to the way things were. Their carreers are over and they are now targets. How can you fix that? Obviously, his job has inherent risks, but indiscretion on the part of the MoD and the press shouldn't be one of them. I think someone needs to be held accountable, and I would even say that the press should also be named in the suit. After all, I believe that a "reasonable and prudent" person could clearly see how making the sniper's identity public would most likely jeopardize his and his family's safety. That being said, I realize that the press has it's own agenda and can't be expected to give 2 sh*ts about the conciquences of their actions. The real responsibility was on the part of the MoD and they failed the soldier miserably.
