I ordered a complete upper with upgraded barrel from Alexander arms 2 weeks ago and I received it in 7 days.

AA has had times when they are really backed up, but now ain't one of them.

Call and see. But unless they've been absolutely slammed in the last 2 weeks, I'd bet they'll be quick.

Re: so... Grendel it is

Guys-

Eleaf is correct, AA has no lead time right now. I just spoke with them and ordered a 18" Satern barrel from them -- no wait time at all. Thanks much for all the ideas there. Looking forward to this build a lot.

QUESTION FOR ADDITIONAL HELP:
What is the word on magazines for the Grendel? I will be shooting 123gr AMaxs. I have heard two opinions: (1) Alexander Arm magazines only and (2) MagPul PMags also work. I have a big pile of PMags but no AA mags (which at $35+, have little interest in having to buy many). What is the SH's word on this matter?

thanks

Longrang30-
that is an interesting idea. I'm interested. If I bought the Satern 6.5 Grendel barrel, 20"'er from Midway, it looks like I would need a .875" gas block. What length gas tube would I need? This would go on my Vltor MUR Upper (that currently has the 5.56mm 18" barrel).
I will call AA on Monday and see what their wait is for a Shilen barrel upgraded upper.

Most 6.5 Grendel barrels have a mid-length gas tube. Both of mine did but im not sure about the longer Satern barrels. You could call Satern and ask or just buy a Rifle and Mid-Length gas tubes and whatever one you dont use just keep it as a spare.

Thank you Longrange-
I actually ended up buying the 18" Satern direct from AA - I just didn't think the extra two inches of the 20" was something I needed. The Grendel is beautiful because its bullet has a high BC and doesn't need lots of MV to succeed

The 18" runs a .75 gas port and a mid-length tube, so I'm GtG there.

Re: so... Grendel it is

my Satern barrels have rifle length gas tubes in 16" and 24"
don't remember what the 14.5 has but I'm sure you could get whatever was preferred; 1 has an .875 gas block, and .750 on the others but Steve will build to suit within reason---Mark at SAC
was building some 20" Grendels with Rock barrels

Re: so... Grendel it is

I've got a 24" Sabre barrel on Sun Devil billet upper and lower. It shoots great! I haven't done a lot of shooting, but it shoots under 1 moa w/my first load! I know the tall bipod looks super gay, but it's the only pic I've got on my computer...

Not a dumb question and something I was just researching. Rifle is 15 3/16", mid is something like 12 1/2" and carbine is 9 3/4".

Re: so... Grendel it is

Thanks JB. I'm glad to hear it as I blindly ordered several "Rifle Length" gas tubes and assumed the LW barrel I was getting (22") would require a rifle length tube. I didn't waste my money and I won't have to sit on my hands waiting for the right tube to ship in AFTER my barrel gets here in February.

Re: so... Grendel it is

I bought one of Les's Grendals (.264)and it smokes! anyone else getting the same reults? His barrrels have got to be some of the best out there now...I was suprised at all the time that goes into fitting it to the lower...now if he can just get some supressor mounts...

Re: so... Grendel it is

Guys, I'm intending to put together a 6.5mm Grendel forum and have it up by New Years. If any of you have suggestions, feel free to msg me.

That said, thanks for the link for LW bbl.s. I was wondering where to get them.
