So this happened at my range today

I drove by this AM right after the LEO's showed up. Body was laying next to the truck. and for your info, Harrison the Scott county DNR has been out to shut this down for a long time. They have land to open a new range outside McCausland. But not enough. There is room for a shotgun range but not rifle. The landowners around there told the DNR to go F themselves they were not going to sell their land for this.

He was shot in the head. Sounds like he pulled the trigger on a "unloaded gun"

Any steel targets on that range? What kind f backstops? Just talking to a guy whose father took a ricochet from a 308 to the shoulder standing next to his brother (shooter) into a reported dirt backstop. it entered his thoracic cavity. May have been a rock or something but few inch over and up, he would have caught it in the head.

Single person dead of gunshot to the head. No one else involved. "No signs of foul play" or "nothing suspicious", etc. Typically means they know the COD. Its almost surely self inflicted.

The range likely has nothing to do with the event. Its like a forest and somebody "goes to the forest". And then they are found in the forest...

Not the first time, and won't be the last that someone commits suicide and/or murder at a gun range. I understand if you have no choice, but you take your chances among skilled shooters, new shooters, and nutcases.

Why shoot at Public ranges?
Because I don't want to join the NRA for a private range. I don't support them.
Are you saying that your girlfriend saw it happen? If so, what did happen?
No. I mean she saw the head line. We did however see a truck there. There was an old man and his vehicle. My truck and then a 3rd truck. The old man, my girlfriend and I (we rode together) were the only ones there and considering bloody water was next to that third truck we assume it was the deceased's.

Some ranges won't rent you a pistol if you are alone for this reason.

One I went to required that I bring my own firearm before renting. The loophole someone figured out was to sign up for a class that uses range supplied firearms, then offed themselves during their turn to shoot.

We have an indoor range that has become a cult like arena for suicides. So much that they won't rent a firearm to any single customer. If you want to rent a firearm, there must be 2 shooters for that lane.

Seems ALL of the suicides were just a single person coming in and renting a handgun and buying a box of ammo.

That's crazy.

A guy shot himself in the leg while my wife and i were at a local range. Hot brass went down his shirt. Looked like he arched his back and lowered the gun straight down and he shot the back of his leg. It went in the back of his calf and out by his shin.

He was in the 25 yard and we were in the 50. We were walking out and he was in the hallway bleeding everywhere looking for help. My wife (an RN) sat him down to keep him calm till the staff came in to start first aid

That could have easily been worse or another shooter hit. I really try to keep an eye on others around me to know who is a risk or not to the best of my abilities.

The range staff was all over it and handled the situation quickly and professionally.

I was out of town at a deal for work and had too much time before my flight out. Went to an indoor gun range to rent a few different handguns and enjoy the day. I had a hell of a time convincing them to let me do so. My CCW permit and pulling up my YouTube channel videos to show them that I was in fact a “gun guy” worked. Although they sent two RSOs to accompany me, one on each arm. Lol.

I'm not sure why this is always such an event. I've had it happen multiple times and have 223 case shaped scars to prove it. It's an annoyance, I'll give it that. When I see it happens to others you would think they're giving birth.
It helps that I weld all the time so I'm used to getting burnt so it doesn't bother me

There was a murder at my club like 10 years ago where the guy shot another guy in the face and used the range as cover trying to pass it off as an accident.

He almost got away with it. Investigators suspected the truth, but couldn't prove it. He wound up telling somebody (bragging actually) he thought would keep quiet about it. However, they called the authorities and agreed to set the guy up by recording conversations with him. He's still in prison.

A giant dirt mound is all that I'm aware of along with some trees. Some parts of the range are designated for shotgun use only while the remaining third is pistol, rifle, shotgun, homemade etc.

Last report I saw the Sheriff said self-inflicted....fucking selfish asshole has to off himself at a range because the only person he was thinking about was himself. If you must, fucking off yourself at home. And don't use a fucking gun to do it.

Haven't people ever heard of carbon monoxide?

Many suicides are people who want to make a ‘splash’ so that people will notice. It’s like a “look at poor, pitiful me!” thing.
