Re: Soft case for Windrunner M96

1. The first thing I noticed was, when changing the scope base, most of the bolts had bottomed out in the threaded holes on the top of the receiver. While hard on the threads, this actually worked as an advantage because I didn't need loctite.
2. However, the bolt at the front of the trigger guard was bottomed out completely and wasn't even holding the guard firm to the receiver- all the holding was being done by the rear bolt
3. The bolt release has a habit of letting the bolt come right out the back of the rifle if I'm not real gentle with it. It seems to get bound up on it's pivot and not reposition itself after a couple of cyclings.
4. When I went to turn down my barrel nut to fashion a forend tube I found that almost nothing was concentric.. The flange was not concentric to the knurled outside, and the center hole was not concentric to that. Seems like it would be harder to make NOT be concentric than it would be to make it concentric, by my estimations- though I am only an amateur machinist.
5. The plastic flange that fits inside the barrel nut (presumably to protect the barrel) was poorly manufactured, also not concentric, and didn't really fit the nut very well. In the end I had to shave it a bit and glue it in place.
6. I got a badly xeroxed .408 manual with my .50DTC. Sure, it's pretty much the same gun. But still. It also mentioned some included items that aren't included.
7. I've already told you about the hard case. The soft case I received is barely big enough, lengthwise, for the barrel to fit in. I would have liked just a half inch more.
8. The magazine rarely feeds without a double-cycle or manual assistance.
Like DesertHK I love my Windrunner. For the price, though, I would hope for perfection. Or I would be willing to pay a bit more if they offered "attention paid to detail" as an accessory.

I think you might find that eagle/Storm combo a little less than satisfying. First off, I'm not sure if the bipod will fit in the storm case when mounted- I would double check the measurements. Secondly, the Windrunner components are so heavy, I don't think the eagle case could hold them in place well enough. I have the case combo, and it's great for a couple ARs- not so sure for a windrunner.
The reason I paid for the EDM hard case is that it appears to have straps to hold the components in place in the foam. Perhaps someone can verify that for me..
