Maggie’s Song of the day.

This whole album is GREAT to drive to, this here is a easy one to hang in on, the rest are spot on...remember...set it on eleven. One of my favorites to hit in the truck!

Yep, Bobby Bare..one of the great originals.....

She was a real one....if you care to check New Orleans, Louisiana History. Went thru quite a few of the videos about her...through them you get some sense of that era, life, society, divisions/mixings and local legends, alll the trappings of a life made, survived...and just lived.

Check some of that out...

Been to her grave. Not much on witches/voodoo, but it is interesting.

FWIW....

I’m going to wrap up my “swamp music” theme tomorrow with a fitting tune, then off to some different themes. We could keep this thread going for years at this rate! I haven’t had a chance to listen to what all y’all have posted, but I’m working on it. Carry on my good men! ??

Swamp music?

On this day, Labor Day, a holiday created to celebrate socialism... here is one to listen to. Every word.
...

I'm celebrating commie labor day at the office. But the phone's not ringing, I'm the only one here and I can turn up the music as loud as I want. I celebrate Dove Season, which isn't for another week. That's an American Holiday!

I grew up with some of this music but wasn't old enough to shave then. Nevertheless, I would like to have a time machine.

You know what the guys on stage with this lady were thinking...

This girl was also known as the Appalachian Angel.

Hank Williams was 28 in this Duet with 19-year-old Anita. I don't think there was any acting going on here.

Nobody could sing this song better than June Carter but Reese Witherspoon came close.

I grew up listening to Wanda Jackson a lot! Trivia note: Ernest Tubb told her to cover her shoulders before she could appear on the Grand Ole Oprey. Where in the hell is a time machine when you need it?

Sorry for the long post but if you are under the age of sixty you don't know what you are missing.

I hate hippies and hippy music. However, you have to admit that they have a good sense of rhythm and harmony. SNL could not have done this up any better.

All old, good stuff. I can see why you followed Wanda, she looks to be a spitfire (sassy). June has class and talent, always love her singing, beautiful smile. Tho my Dad was a true cowboy (born 1918) raised in NM sticks cattle life (that’s got a lot of stories right there alone) with full cowboying skills and he loved Hank. Even tho he got transplanted in California after the war (survived the Bataan Death March) living in a Tract home 50x100 foot lot in small town Cardiff-By-The-Sea, he still dressed and lived full cowboy bollo snap button shirt pointy boots hat shaped by a tub soaking. I was born in Cali and surfing was my love early and just bein’ out of the house all day. We still had chickens geese rabbits desert tortoise and a couple dogs, lol. Learned to handle a horse around cattle still (a bit). Hell, I remember a few times he’d neuter kittens by sticking their head down his boot and do the deed with his case pocketknife. Cattle wrangling and cutting bull oysters with that knife while some others held the ropes and eat them that nite...he grew up in Pietown, NM. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL HIS WHOLE FAMILY WAS. Enough for now Tks for the listen.

Well said!

Made me remember something my dad bought for me besides the Hank Williams was this actual album and I’m surprised my Mom didn’t take it away.

Classic, looking back and now feeling like it coulda been a Saturday Night Live skit even as the jadedness has grown. The things you get when you mix all kindsa’ people it’s the world, some make bigger ripples and some flat out make tsunamis. . ??

Peggy Lee Vs. Jessica Rabbit...

First one smooth as silk, the last one perfection dreams, steamin’ hot...” I’m all in”. ?

Trivia note: Billy Wilder based the character that Marylin Monroe played in "Some Like it Hot" on Ina Ray Hutton.

I don't think Jack Lemmon was acting. Somehow this reminds me of something Z would do

Wonder how many takes to keep that spotlight on Marilyn high enough (first vid)...very strategic ?.

I met and talked with him in the Detroit airport several years ago. Despite his poor health he was real eager to talk. I felt really sorry for him cause he was in such bad shape. I’d like to remember him the way he was in this video.
