Me too. However, from the show they only managed to knock the sounds down from 165Db to 144Db which is well over the hearing damage level I think jet engines at the business end are around 140. The design was just a rip off of the old 'chambered exhaust' systems from the 60s. It looked like the drilled a bunch of holes in the barrel and then wrapped it with 4 or 5 chambers instead of baffles, basically nothing that anyone couldn't do with a Dremel, wielder, a garage, and a few beers.

I dunno if that was really the image we want to portray. Walking out front of a shop and popping off flares isn't exactly good PR.

Sometimes no PR is good PR especially lately with the douche in AZ getting the grabbers rev'd up.

I missed that part. I was running the cnc last night so I was watching a few minutes at a time between parts.

Well to fill you in, he buys a 37mm "grenade launcher" as he puts it and then walks out his from door and pops off a few flares into the sky. As he's walking back in he says something along the lines of pissing off his neighbors.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

that bad show is like watching an infomercial for red jacket, The customers that wanted the suppressed shotgun and the master key looked setup to me. Developping weapons system takes months not "come back friday" shit.
there is also a need to clean up the image of the gun owner in America this reinforce the "bubba" conception of the general public
just my 2 cents..

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

I hope being televised now, they improve their workmanship/efforts from the thread jobs I've handled.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Worst show about guns ever. Even Top Shot is better than this garbage. Good show that usually isn't about guns Howe and howe tech, they designed a .50 cal remote turret that had a M82A1 mounted on top. Or at least Lock N' Load which at least has a bit of knowledge in it not a bunch of rednecks using dremels and a mill from the 50s.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

wow, I will never get that 30+ MINS of my life back.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

That show was a waste of my time and I only watched the last 15 minutes of one of the shows. Im thinking they need to scrap the show before they invest too much more

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

The flare launcher / grenade launcher made me laugh. Maybe they have the custom gold top HEDP 37mm rounds on order?

Other than the cool cannon they wheeled through I did not see anything to make me want to watch it again.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Complete waste of time! Is it me or is the daughter an annoying fucking twit?

These guys talk and act like buffoons and I will not be watching again.

By the way, wasn't that whole "Masterkey" thing stolen from KAC?

- Sons of Guns

I'm not Military/LE by any means, but even I thought it seemed real damn illogical to have the operator designated to breach the door, then be the 1st to enter as well. Of course, I also thought it was unusual that all the members of Baton Rouge's SWAT team was too fat to meet the weight requirements of even this 1-horse, cowtown I live in, but hey, it's on TV, so it's gotta be true, right?

Anyway, why the Hell if u were going to attach a cut-down shotgun under an AR-15/M4, would u choose a heavy, fuckin Saiga? I'm no armorer, but I would think weight would be the #1 factor to consider here.
It would appear to me that if it was truly necessary for the breacher to be a repeater, then a Rem 870/Mossberg 500 would've been alot better option than what they used. Either would've been alot lighter, as well as the shape would allow for closer attachment to the AR's bottom-rail, making it a lil' less unwieldy, & more sturdy at the same time. The tube-magazine would allow multiple shots, & u wouldn't have a box-magazine to worry about losing or having it fall out. Maybe Baton Rouge SWAT are faster than they look, & clear rooms so fast that they need the quicker follow-up shot of the Saiga semi-auto?

I guess I just answered my own question. I opened-up Red Jack-Off's website in a separate tab while typing my post, and I see now that Red Jacket appears to be some kinda of big, Saiga distributor or something. That would explain their fanaticism over a brand of shotgun that is relatively unknown or just not all that popular with the majority of the public. So, basically what we have here is a glorified commercial for Saiga, disguised as a TV show! Gotta hand it to Red Jacket & Saiga, guys! Even if this show gets the Ax after a couple episodes, they were still sharp enough to get the Discovery Channel to PAY THEM to advertise their product/gunshop!

Gentlemen, it's just a fact. Cable TV could find a way to fuck-up Hardcore Porn!

Oh yeah, someone posted earlier that it looked staged when the guy wanting the suppressor, & the SWAT guy wanting the "Master Key" just popped-in. Well, Idk for sure, but when I opened-up the store's website, at the top of the page, right above where they give the store's address/email/telephone #, it says in big letters, "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!"

Re: - Sons of Guns

Yep, that was time I can never get back. I was almost interested in them building the M2 until they had to "outsorce" someone else to come in and build it.

I think the daughter said the smartest statment yet when she asked " Why are we bringing in someone else to build our guns when that is what we do......build guns"

Nuf said I'm out on that show.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Well, I didn't think it was possible, but YEP! This week's show was even shittier than last week's! The most grindingly, annoying thing about the show is what seems to be the weekly, Father/Daughter, "I paid a shit-load for this new gun, so I'll bet u that if u sell $250,000 worth of Saiga's & 10/22's by Friday, then I can keep it!" WTF???

Anyone else think $3,500 is a lil' bit too fuckin high for a suppressed Ruger .22LR with a hacked-up aftermarket barrel, & cheap-ass, mall-ninja Tacti-kool stock???

Actually, I think it was for 2 of the units with cans. I personally thought it was a little hinky that they didn't mention any NFA rules while showing the guys buying TWO double-stamp guns. And the fact that they want "Quiet", small guns and then the whole airboat thing afterwards just screams "poachers" or "smugglers" to me.

Today's show was the only one of this series I will be watching. These people make class 3 dealers look like totally incompetent redneck morons, and that just gives the gun grabbers more to hold against the rest of us. Between the total lack of discussion about NFA and the fact that they started a fire using tracers in dense vegitation, these morons should be removed from the gene pool. They should not be allowed to do this shit, especially on TV.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

The fact that in the advertisement for the show,he says "If you can dream it he can build it," and then brings in a guy to put togather an M2 made them loose all credebility right there.

Also, I am no expert but I was pretty sure that supressed shotguns are not legal in the US. Didnt we already have this discussion when No Country For Old Men Came out and everybody wanted one like in the movie. Its funny though, in Europe they have super strict laws about only having single shot guns and such, but it is legal to supress their shotguns.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

I am pretty sure suppressed shotguns are legal. The real question is how effective are they.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

I gotta agree with who ever said it above...these guys are supposed to be professionals, but yet they bring in other professionals to help their staff build both the flame thrower and the .50cal...not to metion how retarded these guys are shooting tracers into dry brush. WOW!

I actually work as a firefighter and if I showed up there I would have beat this guys ass down with halligan.

Did anyone else catch the fact there was a guy walking around one area of the field with the brushfire pack (bag of water with a little hose), and it seemed as though they turned the .50 about 90 degrees and let off a few more rounds. Not sure if this is due to poor editing or what, but still seems rediculous.

To quote a great movie...

Mr. RedJacket-hick, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

UMMMM...NO. Not ever! Suppressors have NEVER been federally illegal. States may restrict certain items beyond Fed laws.

Neither you or I live in a state that restricts any of those items. If we have the money, no criminal history and the inclination we can own all the fun stuff in OK.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

The thing that pisses me off the most is every single scene is obviously staged and scripted. I want a reality show about real gunsmithing, not a soap opera about some goofy rednecks or an infomercial for a crappy gun shop.

A real show about how tight the tolerance is on your bolt would be so boring, it would never air. The acting is so bad. Watch the scene again where the bow fishers invite that chick fishing that night, sounded like lines from a bad porno. I was cracking up. I was also laughing at the scene were they were driving rivets into that M2 receiver. It looked very DIY to me.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

That show was terrible...I wanted to yell at them for loading the rounds the wrong way like a bunch of boots in the M2

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Is that stupid, ugly-ass Saiga-12 the only kinda firearm these douche-bags sell? So far, the only other guns they've shown that weren't, either one of the "toys" Red Jacket's corny, lame-ass, slob of an owner bought from somebody else, or that cannon the show's producer obviously just brought-in as a time-fill, 'cause they didn't do a fuckin' thing to it, was a couple suppressed, .22 rifles.

Gotta love how 3 outta every 4 guys that "drop-by" their shop are wanting to buy a Saiga-12 to "hunt" with! Now, I've never even held a Saiga-12, but I do know a little bit about shotguns, and hunting with them. Which leads me to wonder just WTF kinda hunting it is that they're doing, that wouldn't be severely hampered by trying to use that big, heavy P.O.S.?

*Quail/Pheasant/Dove/Duck hunting?
Yeah, I bet finding the correct lead is just a dream with it! Do they come w/ 3-round mags, or do u have to cut a plug?
*Turkey hunting
I wonder if the Jellyhead turkey-choke outta my Rem 870 will fit?
*Deer hunting
'Cuz nothing else screams, "Hey Game Warden! Come harass me!" quite like carrying a Saiga-12 to the deer woods!

The only kind of people I can think of, that would be able to come-up with a use that'd justify spending that much money for an AK-47-looking 12ga, & that would be, someone with plenty of extra cash, the interests of a dorky, 12yr old boy, & would rather play a video game online, than get his pole wet.
JMO, your mileage may vary...

WOW! agreed that the show has a bunch of rednecks on it but where the fuck did you come from....the land where its only a gun if its made of wood and blued steel, and fulfills only the functions you approve of.

Tell John Kerry hello next time you spend some quality time outdoors with him.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

The sad part is these guys probably thought "yeah lets get famous like OCC did on American Chopper".

What they didn't stop to realize (and probably don't care) is that all this show is going to do is hurt gun owners and the industry by painting gunsmiths and owners in a unprofessional light and exposing all their redneck insanity and attitude on TV and the general non-gun owning public is going to go "Wow I guess the media were right, gun owners ARE irresponsible wackos and they do need to be regulated more."

The gun industry would be a lot better off if they'd have found a shop that built high end competition or hunting guns, at least that might convey that there ARE good uses for guns and that gunsmiths can be professional. Unfortunately that show would probably never get any viewers aside shooters.

The most scary part is though, poke your head on over to the Saiga12 forums....the vast majority of users posting about the show over there LOVE it. Which can only make me think that owning a Saiga must drop your IQ at least 40 points by default.

Whoa, easy now, Trigger! No, I don't come from any such boring land where Pre-'64 Winchesters & the like, are the only real guns. I really don't even have anything against the Saiga-12, other than the 2 hours the douche-bags of Red Jacket spent shoving them down my throat! If somebody wants to go hunting with a Saiga-12, then more power to them. But really, how many people are really buying one of those pieces to take hunting? They're just using those 100% scripted scenes as another opportunity for more shameless, product-placements. I love the "black rifles" as well as anyone, but we're already getting torn-apart in the media for any little thing that can be twisted to fit-in with the anti-gun idiots' arguments. To have someone like Red Jacket(who regardless how ridiculous we think they are, will be called experts by the ignorant, talking-heads in the media), making us all look like crazed, idiots for the sake of making a dollar, just pisses me off. That Will guy that owns the shop should know how any little thing will be twisted around into making us look bad, and when he sees the show's producers setting-up scenes that make it look as though every person who walks into a gunshop wants some big, scary gun to kill poor, lil' Bambi, that's borderline illegal to hunt game with, he should have stepped-in & put an end to the stupidity! He could use his show as an opportunity to educate the majority of viewers who are going to just except everything they see on TV as fact. Of course, he's too busy trying to make the viewer believe he's this "over the top," mad scientist gunsmith. Idk, maybe I'm just an idiot for believing someone in his position should take a little responsibility and try to clear-up some of the misconceptions, instead of trying to act cute & creating even more.

The show at Daniel Defense, Noveske, Centurion, GAP, MSTN would have definitely been interesting and more technical

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

The only reason they picked Red Jacket to do this show is for the reality tv aspect of it. It's formulaic. Find dysfunctional business, air their dirty laundry, devalue whatever industry they are involved with be associating the morons in the show with said industry add water and shake. They sure weren't looking for serious gun people to watch this show and it was guaranteed to piss off the real shooting community from the start.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Dismal performance on that paper target when they where shooting to see who was going to work the flame thrower. If you are that into firearms, and have an indoor range at your disposal, wouldn't you be able to tighten up those groups a bit?

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

overall, the crap that is on tv is so dismal and betraying. This show, we'd seen the one episode of it, and not interested in anymore at all.

North American 'reality' shows are all following the same general storyline, just supposedly changing 'backgrounds'. There are other shows, from other areas which are actually interesting, informative, and NON-CONFRONTATIONAL as well as CONFLICT FREE. Now that is a concept that is beyond anyone in the industry here in N.A.

The prominent programming available here in N.A. is stepping society down, for sure. Seriously, what is the greatest(most prominent/prevalent) "teacher" of our times, eh?

When our society is not particularly challenged, we like to take up the sport of mutual character homicide - in the 1920s, it was "urban v. rural," white v. black, religion v. science. In the 1930s it was rich v. poor.

When people started shooting at us or wanted to use nukes to erase us from the planet, we largely pulled together. Such was America until the 1960s, when the shitty baby-boomers decided they'd throw a fit and rip the country apart. Then the battle became young v. old, and it didn't matter that we were in a war.

These days the split is between "sensitive vs. insensitive" - between the macho redneck knuckledragger (their characterization) v. the sensitive, metrosexual, "in-touch-with-people's-sensitivities" types. The producers of this show want to rile up us knuckledraggers - give us "red meat" to gump and gaw over.

I won't be watching, and I encourage you guys not to watch either. The reality of cool patience required to both obey the crazy gun laws and do quality work makes shite TV - so they gotta junk it up with sultry looks from teeny-bopper.

Blech.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Hey at least it is a show that has to do with firearms, if our Govt. has it's way they want to take all our guns away through the UN..scary situation we have to keep a close watch on this. Keep on shooting!

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

That was the worst show ever. The guys buying the .22 with a suppressor...... it should have been made clear on the proper forms and wait times it takes to buy that type of equipment.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

This generation of TV is shit. This is no different. The liberal media found some redneck idiot to be the face of "real" American gun ownership. Redneck idiot saw dollar signs and didnt care how much of a fool he and his shop look like or what picture his ignorance will paint for the liberal gun control media. In my opinion, "real" American gun owners have to fight to keep their guns and this jackass is doing nothing but giving the other side ammo to fight against us. Now all the world will see this and think that gun owners in America ride around with a .50 mounted to their 4X4 shooting and blowing up shit. Then the fire department has to put out grass fires behind them. This is what sells though. Because seeing someone else look like a fool or seeing family turmoil boil over or see someone elses spouse cheating makes viewers feel like their own lives are so much better than they really are. Best thing to do is not watch, the ratings will be shit and they will pull the show.

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Who shoots a .50 cal with only foam in ear plugs? And the way they overrate their shotgun supressor. They are all going to be deaf before the end of the season

Re: Sons of Guns - New Discovery Show

Tonight they made an AR-15. For $1850, you can be the owner of a plane-jane AR-15 with a $90 carbon fiber free float tube. Sweet. Fail.
