this is kind of a general question as im sure it has alot of varibles like ammo, gun etc.

assuming a bolt action or single shot gun as i understand it in a gun there are 2 sounds. sonic crack, explosion.

is there a rule of thumb especially on 22s of what percentage of the sould is sonic, explosion.

if i shot a unsuppressed 22 with high velocity ammo what percent of the sound i hear would be sonic crack vs explosion

Re: sound question

With HV ammo, I'd say that the sound is 50/50 from the crack vs. the boom. Barrel length will likely make a huge difference.

Shoot some subsonic ammo from your gun and see how much noise it makes. That will give you a pretty good baseline on the boom. Everything else is sonic crack.
