I was watching Lowlight's videos of the gladius with the suppressor and it seems from the camera sound recording the suppression is almost nonexistent. I was just wondering how much sound it actually reduces compared to a 24" barrel with a suppressor for instance.

Also wondering how loud it is on a regular length bolt gun such as a 24". I'm looking at getting suppressors in the next year and a half, and i find myself wondering if i will be able to shoot without ear protection?

You really can't tell how loud or what a suppressor really sounds like by watching videos on the net. A longer barrel might be a wee bit quieter, but you are sacrificing mobility and weight with a longer barrel.

Yeah i didn't figure the camera would do it any justice. I don't own a 18.5" barreled rifle. I have a 24". Although i plan on re-barreling my action sometime down the road to a bigger contour. I'm running a stock 5R right now. I have planned to just get another 24". How is the sound suppression of a general bolt gun suppressed? Good enough to shoot without earplugs or still ear piercing?

I have had my SAS Ti Arbiter on my AW in the following configurations- 26", 20", and 18.5". There was no audible difference between the 26" and the 20". I noticed that the 18.5 seemed a tiny bit louder, but when shooting in the open (not under a canopy that reflects sound) I am perfectly comfortable shooting it without hearing protection.

So- a shorter barrel is perhaps a BIT louder, but still nothing at all like an unsuppressed rifle.

Ya, that suppressor doesn't work very good at all and in fact, 130DB is just about the perfect range for a video camera microphone so it gives a nice full sound to it.

See the key to buying any suppressor, for sure the best way to know it is good, is to make sure it makes a Full Load in a rifle sound like a pellet gun, cause that is really goal after all, sound suppression . So if your suppressor can't do that, I would not recommend it. This is the reason I own so many because finding that perfect tone is like a quest for me. Arthur had his grail, we have the ultimate in sound suppression.

Best of luck in your travels Percivale, may you be more success than I ...

Lowlight, if this is directed toward me. I meant the camera sound recording didn't do it justice in the fact that it made it seem alot louder than it actually is. I was not downplaying the gear in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Never did i once imply that the suppressor doesn't work well, nor did i mean that, i meant the exact opposite. Sorry for the misunderstanding because that isn't what was intended.

    This happens all the time.

Yeah i wasn't or didn't intend to bash or downplay anything. I'm wanting to get that rifle in a couple of years setup the exact same way.

I have an 18.5" barrel on one of my 308s and use a YHM Phantom can. It is very quiet. Plus muzzle flash is cut down and the rifle feels better balanced, at least to me, configured as such.
I'd be interested in hearing from Lowlight about his quest. Have you found the perfect can and if so what is it?
