LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - A homeowner opened fire on a man trying to kick down his door early Friday morning, Lawrence Police report.

Police received several 911 calls around 1 a.m. Friday reporting shots being fired in the 12200 block of Bearsdale Drive. Officers arrived on the scene where they found the body of a 21-year-old man body resting just inside the front door of a house.

Investigators located the homeowner who told officers the deceased, Jesse Coleman, was trying to kick down the front door. The resident told police Coleman was carrying a gun when he opened fire.

Police also found a shoe laying in the front yard.

Meanwhile, officers responding to the scene encountered a speeding vehicle leaving the area. Lawrence Police stopped the vehicle and its two occupants. One of the men in the car was missing a shoe.

Police tell 24-Hour News 8 they suspect the two men were working with the deceased suspect and ran off when shots were fired.

Re: Sounds like justice was served?

Whew they almost had a "First 48" episode there, except the homeowner was armed.

In this state they would still prosecute the homeowner unless the perp was s hooting - and even THEN they'd prosecute and say it was "Gang activity" unless you were much older with no record..

Re: Sounds like justice was served?

Happened about 1/2 mile from my house. These aren't uncommon round these parts, I'm betting the "perp" knew or knew of the "victim". These are rarely random and the booty sought is rarely money, jewelry or electronics.

Re: Sounds like justice was served?

It's happening more and more around here.

This being the most recent and by far the most terrible. The despicable scum who killed the kids in the story were rolled up on Thursday. Brilliant...
