They can go both ways from what I have seen. Most of the time you will see a decrease in accuracy before they just go to crap.

Clean the barrel and see if the repeatability improves.
One of the things that I've seen in addition to the barrel throwing shots is a wandering zero.

Bohem is on the money. Pay special attention to the leade and Freebore area.
My .260 barrel stopped Shooting around 1300 rnds. A buddy with a borescope found a thick ring of carbon in the leade. Once this was removed my barrel started shooting again.
Good luck with it. How many rnds down your tube and what calibre?
