My barbecue business is coming closer to a reality. I am having a trailer pit made and work begins in about 2 days. Here's what it will look like when it's done. I will post pics as progress is made. Let me know what you'll think!

The smallest pit he builds is a back yard pit that is about 24" x 36" with an offset firebox. His price is approximately $850 pending on metal prices. That's a pretty good deal. That ain't no pit, but it is a dmaned nice looking smoker!(Come on, a PIT is lined with rock or brick and dug into the earth about 10 feet) You run oak, apple, and maple wood with a touch of hickory and mesquite, you will have so much flavoe your client;s won;t know how to eat it!

You're right, everyone down here calls them pits. Just bad slang I guess. I would love to have a true pit though. I don't have a bone in not body that would know how to build one that wouldn't fall apart. I could cue on it though!

Anytime bro, be sure to give me a heads up if you do head this way. No shortage of festivals here to attend. You should try and hook up with some of the local micro brews, which have opened here and cook out at the brewery for a weekend. Sure it will be a huge hit..

Anyone know where I can get a nice pair a rims for good price? I don't care if they are used. I spoke to the welder today and he said the rims don't match but the tires do. Not looking for anything too expensive for now.

That pit needs a metal roof so the sun and rain (if it ever gets here) wont ruin the fun. I am gonna need copious amounts of free samples (so I can give free and honest advertisements about your awesome food, monthly installments will be fine).

I don't know but the way I hear it when you pull back the hammer one BBQ lid closes and rotates another pit around and opens the lid to another brisket or chicken. So if you pull the hammer back six times and put some meat in each time you've got six BBQ pits going.

I spoke to the welder a few days ago and decided to have 3 doors on the main chamber instead of 2. I went ahead and had it made into a reverse flow smoker too. The pipe will still be 30" diameter with 3 sliding racks. I'll update pics when it begins to look like a real smoker.

I see some fancy bbq's & Smokers have sliding racks, and even the odd "Ferris Wheel" or 'circulating racks' on a chain-type system. Anyone here use that/them and/or recommend that style?
I'm thinking of incorporating such into what I'm designing here, but don't see it often. Simply a cost factor or other valid reason(s)?
Because the temperature AND smoke fluctuations would be all evened out in this manner, eh?
And yes, I'm leaning towards a larger size/type unit.

I'm going to smoke some briskets about a week after I get it home. I'm looking to get at least 20 orders for briskets to make it worth while. I have a few lined up now. I'm only charging $30 to smoke them for 10-14 hours If the brisket is brought to me. $35 plus the cost of the brisket if I have to go buy it myself.
Either way it's cheaper than going to a BBQ shack and buying it by the pound. On average it's $10/lb, but have seen some places a little under $16/lb.

If I could afford a rotisserie style smoker I would have it made in a heart beat. Those smokers are awesome and very expensive. I know someone who has one and he loves it
They are ideal to have. I would say I you can afford go ahead and have it made.
It is said that when you have a rotisserie, all your meat cooks evenly if you have a well insulated smoker.

I woke up yesterday morning and found these pics sent to me on an email from Donald.
I got a phone call from Donald around 5 PM yesterday and said he sent more pics.
This morning work will begin on the doors and sliding racks! It's finally looking like a smoker. In the bottom two pics Tommy is about 5'8" to give a better view on how big the smoker is.
