I've updated my origianl post with photos of a completed SPECTER-BABR. I believe this is one of the most versatile rifles I've ever used and I'm thoroughly pleased with its performance and overall "handiness." The specs are:

Underground Skunkworks Model 911 "Military" Action (feeds from AICS and AW Mags)
Underground Skunkworks Precision Ground Recoil Lug
Underground Skunkworks Back Up Iron Sight System integral to the 20 MOA Rail with Underground Skunkworks Front Sight (a Skunkworks Exclusive)
Underground Skunkworks SPECTER NV Mount (not pictured)(also a Skunkworks exclusive)
Underground Skunkworks Forward, Side-Mounted Picatinny Rails
Manners/UGSW MCS-SPECTER Stock
Underground Skunkworks Precision Pillar System
Underground Skunkworks EHD DBM
Bartlein 5R SPECTER Contour Barrel, 19"
S&B 1.1-4 Short Dot Day Optic
ATLAS Rail
AAC Brake/Adapter

I'm building a few 18" versions of the SPECTER as well and the NV Mount will be available for outside builds soon. It can be adapted to the McMillan A1-3 and HTG stocks.

The SPECTER-BABR package will be available to the non Military and LE market, but I don't believe I'll be willing to deviate significantly from the original design specs. The rifle weighs 9lbs 14oz without the optics, 5 rounds in the mag and a TIS sling. It was designed for close urban combat (MOUT), perimeter/overwatch missions and SDM roles.

See the announcement on the New Products page at Tactical-Life.com

Re: SPECTER-BABR Preview from Underground Skunkworks

WOW!

Will the FWD NVD mount be reversable? IMO you have just refined the Scout rifle to a degree that Col Cooper would appreciate greatly.

I realize the Fwd mount is for a NVD but personaly it has appeal as a mount for a red dot in the scout position.

Well done!

The short answer is "YES." The NV Mount is reversible and the production version is configured a little differently so it better accommodates the Forward Mounted SCOUT Type Sight and to give a better range of ocular to objective interface when running the NV Optic. The front sight is designed to be co-witnessed with the CC Mode (1X Red Dot in the 1-8 Short Dot). The rifle is designed for the 25 to 800 meter target engagement range in dynamic environments. I'm also working on a few other surprises that I'll post at a later date.

Thanks AZ6....

Beautiful work on the stick sir! Is the S&B 1-8x ready to roll or did you get an advanced release model?

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Thanks DT....The Short Dot is an advanced copy and it should hit the market by the end of October. It lends itself very well to this type of platform as it allows the SPECTER to fill the void between the M4/M16 based assualt guns and the M24/M40 precision platforms.

Re: SPECTER-BABR Preview from Underground Skunkworks

Holy shit i'm speechless. After you are done with the 2 builds you got going on for me, thats the next 1. That will compliment the Kukri very well in the safe. Keep it up and i will need a part time job also. Keep the killer work coming Mike.

Re: SPECTER-BABR Preview from Underground Skunkworks

Mike,

As usual, GREAT work. I really like the BUIS.

Mike is a great guy. I have not given him a penny (not yet anyways :D) and he has treated me like a big-spending frequent customer. He has given me great advice about making the right choices for my first custom rifle build. No one should hesitate in using his services!

I'm curious to see what other cool stuff will make its way out of the Skunkworks shop......

Can you elaborate on your above statement? You mention the option of a different stock, but what design specs won't you change? I sure I hope I can get it without the Short Dot!

Thanks Max and I have a few ideas on the Rimfire project that will set it apart.

Mute, I'm actually working to get the weight down a little more. My goal was to be in the 10lb range with the day optic, but with the Short Dot coming in at 19 oz, I'm a little heavier than I'd like to be....I have some ideas to get it down a little.

You never disappoint Dan and the good news for you is that your KUKRI barrel (along with quite a few others) came in earlier this week....

Re: SPECTER-BABR Preview from Underground Skunkworks

While I have no real use for an "urban combat" rifle, this would be a sick day/night medium range fun gun....

I'll be interested to see how much this lil guy will cost...

Glock24, Sorry for the confusion. What I was referring to was the basic design specs of the rifle itself. I'll go shorter on the barrel, but not longer than 19" and the other SPECTER specific features would stay the same, i.e., BUIS, NV Mount, DBM, etc. The SureFire Suppressor Adapters are an option and I would do a threaded muzzle with cap if someone wanted to use a thread on suppressor.

There are other options for the optics, but ideally the rifle is designed for a lower mag range. The Short Dot and other 1-8X optics are perfect for the intended use of the rifle and they allow optimum performace with NVD's. USO has a 1.5-10 that would be great and S&B has a 1.5-6....

Thanks Guys and I actually do offer a version without the NV Mount, but there are two short Pic rails on each side of the forend. I'll have photos available of the finished rifle very soon....Right now, the BUIS system is only available on Skunkworks actions. I'm considering doing a version of the rail for the Remington 700, but there are quite a few other projects going already.
