Im trying to decide on either purchasing the Spikes Billet Set or Mega's Billet Set.
I would Appreciate any information on both of these Billet Sets.
Any Issues or Problems, which set has better build Quality?
Thank You

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

I have used both and think the spikes is better, JMHO.
I would go with Seekins though who makes the spikes.
Seekins has some seriously bad ass products.

All of the benefits of a monolithic upper receiver with the option of changing rail length is finally here. All MR uppers and rails will be available to ship January 30, 2012. We are starting to take orders now. Dealer inquiries welcome.

Our new uppers are built from 7075 billet and the rail mounting points are machined in place retaining the stiffness of a true monolithic upper while allowing the rails to be completely modular. This new upper design is much thicker in the most critical area and will aid in squeezing the potential accuracy out of your rifle. Instead of a internally threaded barrel nut this system uses a externally threaded Titanium barrel nut with 1-1/8” wrench flats on it for simple installation. No special proprietary wrenches needed. These will be available for the two new SP rails below as well as the BAR and SAR rails currently sold thru Spikes Tactical.
MSRP $299

When I set out to design a modular rail I just couldn’t make up my mind what one I liked best so we did two! Both are completely modular as far as accessory rails. You can have as many as you like, wherever you like, without compromising comfort or weight. Each design will come with one full length top rail, three short rail sections, and all mounting hardware. These rails attach to the tubes with a proprietary fastener system that makes it quick and easy to add or remove rails in the field. The angled slots will also accept a rail section and allow you to place them anywhere you like. These rails will also be available with barrel nuts for attachment to standard uppers. Both designs are the lightest on the market weighing less than 10 ounces for the 14” version without accessory rail attachments!

The round rail was designed to be a very comfortable and light weight rail system that will work in any situation AND allow a suppressor to fit back inside the rail. A custom 12” rail will be available just for suppressor use, designed to make using a quick mounted suppressor easy to install or remove while underneath the rail (such as the AAC or Surefire mount systems). The 12” rail with a 8” barrel and suppressor looks unbelievable. (pics coming soon)

Available in 7,9,12 and 14” lengths MSRP starting at $239

The triangular rail was designed out of necessity from shooting 3 gun and sniper competitions where barricade or improvised shooting positions are frequent. At only 2” wide it fits perfectly into your hand and instantly feels at home. On a barricade, barrel, ledge or window opening the flat surfaces give you a very sturdy rest allowing for faster and more accurate shot placement.

Available in 12” and 14” lengths MSRP starting at $249

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

I dumped a pot load of money on my matched Mega ambi Billet upper and lower and built a recce style rifle around a Noveske barrel LMT enhanced BCG and a gen 3 PRI tube with top rail. Its a laser and has great fit and finish. Never had the opportunity to handle the Seekins but I'm not sure how they classify the upper as monolithic when its two parts.

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

Cutting something in half, and bolting it back together, can actually leave you with a stronger, stiffer part, than if it was all one piece.

I'm doing a -15 build with the Mega billet receivers currently. I can't say I regret it in the slightest, in terms of fit and finish (which is all I can really address at this point).

ETA: I'm not actually using a <span style="font-style: italic">matched</span> set FWIW, I'm building an upper first.

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

I own a Spikes Tactical and have at least 500 to 1000 rnds through it and not an issue. I would without hesitation buy another.

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

I really like the Mega sets but there is one thing though, make sure you get a newer set if you want to run a BAD lever. The older sets didnt have a large enough cut out but the newer ones do. I really want to build a Mega monolithic someday.

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

The spikes billet upper and lowers are ours as well, just marked and sold thru spikes tactical.

Monolithic - Constituting <span style="text-decoration: underline">OR acting as a single</span>, often rigid, uniform whole. We have made the upper and the rail mount "one piece" instead of two, so... the uppers by your definition would be monolithic and that was my exact intentions. I just took the idea of a monolithic upper one step further by making it easier to assemble, less costly and more adaptable to better suit the end user. By definition, a continuous rail than went across the entire upper and forend that was made of 20 parts, but when assembled acted as one then it would be monolithic...Regardless, the name isn't permanent and may be changed so we don't cause confusion

Re: Spikes Billet or Meag's Billet Set?

Not questioning the execution or the manufacturer, just the definition. I am a big proponent of similar systems I have a MK 12 Mod 0 and a recce built on the PRI tubes with a "backbone" rail. Most people know a laminated beam is stronger than same dimension beam cut right from the log. If you ask most people who makes monolithic uppers I think they would say LMT,Vltor or Mega.

Definition of MONOLITHIC by Merriam-Webster
1a : of, relating to, or resembling a monolith : huge, massive b (1) : formed from a single crystal <a monolithic silicon chip> (2) : produced in or on a monolithic chip <a monolithic circuit>
2a : cast as a single piece <a monolithic concrete wall> b : formed or composed of material without joints or seams <a monolithic floor covering> c : consisting of or constituting a single unit
3a : constituting a massive undifferentiated and often rigid whole <a monolithic society> b : exhibiting or characterized by often rigidly fixed uniformity <monolithic party unity>
